ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Registrations of new cars in the Roanoke Valley rose in May, but for the first five months of this year are off 11.1 percent from the same period a year ago, the Virginia Automobile Association reported. The Richmond-based trade group said 3,510 new cars were registered by dealers in the Roanoke Valley this year compared with 3,950 last year.

The month of May brought an increase of 10.6 percent with 1,030 new cars registered this year compared with 931 for the same month last year. May was also 46.7 percent better than April.
