MAN CHARGED IN RAPE OF 9-YEAR-OLD

According to court records, the girl told police she was bicycling with a man Wednesday when he took her to a secluded wooded area near the Bedford Science and Technology Center and ordered her to disrobe. She said the man told her to lie on the ground and then raped and sodomized her.

After she returned home, the girl reported the attack to her mother, who called police. An emergency room physician at Bedford County Memorial Hospital confirmed to police that she had been raped.

Calvin McDaniel Snead, 27, was charged with one count each of abduction, sodomy, rape and exposing himself, all felonies.

Snead is being held in the Bedford jail.
