REPAIR SHOP SUES BOBBITT OVER DEBT

Lorena Bobbitt is due back in court next week, two years to the day after she cut off her husband's penis with a kitchen knife.

An auto body shop claims she failed to pay a $920.61 bill to repair damage to her white 1991 convertible - the same car she drove as she fled, still clutching the severed organ, from the apartment she shared with John Bobbitt.

An insurance check to cover front-end repairs was made out to both Lorena Bobbitt and the R&D Collision Center. The suit in Prince William County General District Court claims she forged the second signature and cashed the check.

Her attorney said the dispute was a misunderstanding and the bill has since been paid.

Both sides said the suit will likely be settled before a scheduled June 23 trial. If not, she will walk into the same courthouse where both the Bobbitts' trials took place.

Lorena Bobbitt, 26, was found innocent but insane in the June 23, 1993, attack on her husband. In a separate trial John Bobbitt, 28, was found innocent of sexually abusing his wife.

Both Bobbitts filed for divorce after the attack. Two years later, they remain legally separated. The divorce is pending, but has snagged on ownership of some property - apparently including the red-handled knife Lorena Bobbitt used.

The knife remains in court custody as a trial exhibit, but John Bobbitt claims it is his. He reportedly intends to sell it as a curiosity.
