You can buy a new one-year town license for $20, or splurge for a two-year sticker for $38. To accommodate Mr. and Ms. Last-Minute, the town finance office will remain open until 7 p.m. today. The office is located inside the Municipal Building at 300 S. Main St., at the intersection with Washington Street.
All you need (aside from money) is your license plate number and the make and model of your car.
For those who like to live dangerously, the fine for being caught with an expired town sticker is not less than $10 and not more than $50, plus court costs. You also can be fined if you purchase a new sticker but forget to attach it to your windshield.
Blacksburg police, though, have a policy of reminding, rather than ticketing, motorists with expired stickers for the first 15 days following the deadline. In other words, slacker amnesty until July 1.
If you live in Christiansburg or in the county outside Blacksburg and you don't already have a current vehicle sticker, you're way late. Their deadlines passed in April.
