Horse show

The 24th Annual Roanoke Valley Horse Show is coming to the Salem Civic Center on June 19-25.

The event, sponsored by the Junior League of Roanoke Valley and the Roanoke Valley Horsemen's Association, is the state's largest multibreed, Class A show. World-class riders from across the U.S., Canada and Europe will compete.

The more than 1,000 horses in the show includes hunter, hackney, jumper. racking, roadster, saddlebred and western classes.

The premier event, the Rolex Grand Prix of Roanoke, will take place on June 25 at 2 p.m.

Proceeds from the show benefit the Junior League's Care That Counts and Affordable Child Care Project and The Horsemen's Association's scholarships, programs, projects and grants.

W.Va. State Fair

The 1995 State Fair of West Virginia will be in Lewisburg from Aug. 11-19. Attractions will include a circus, carnival rides, ice show, horse show, harness racing, crafts, stage acts, agriculture contests, exhibits and many others.

George Jones, with Lari White, opens the concert schedule on Aug. 12. Other performers include The Statler Brothers on Aug. 13, Confederate Railroad and David Ball on Aug. 14, Martina McBride and Marty Stuart on Aug. 15, Clay Walker and Lisa Brocop on Aug. 16, Firehouse on Aug. 17, Aaron Tippin and Little Texas on Aug. 18 and Merle Haggard and Alison Krauss on Aug. 19.

Concert ticket sales began Monday for telephone and mail orders only. Telephone orders are accepted Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Buyers may use either Visa or Mastercard. Allow two weeks for delivery.

No walk-in tickets orders will be accepted until July 3. Advance grounds admission and carnival ride tickets may be purchased at the Fairgrounds office through Aug. 9.

No refunds or exchanges are permitted. Concert tickets do not include admission to the grounds.

On Aug. 11 only, general admission costs $9.99 and includes mechanical carnival rides and a grandstand show. Aug. 12-19, adult admission is $6, children under 11 are free. Free parking and camping are available.
