WHAT WOULD DAD THINK?

If the world were your oyster, who would be the pearl - your ultimate fantasy celebrity date? (You can play even if the dating game is part of your ancient history.)

Cindy Crawford? Brad Pitt?

Ah, but what would Dad think? After all, Sunday is Father's Day, hardly the time to raise the old man's blood pressure by introducing him to a date such as Dennis Rodman (the pro basketball player with rainbow hair and an attitude) or bad girl Madonna (she of the cone bra).

Which star or starlet would Dad like to see you get into a limo with?

A survey by Moosehead Beer revealed that Mel Gibson and the oh-so-cute Meg Ryan are America's choices to bring home to Papa. For the ladies, Denzel Washington came in second - though he finished first among women under 35.

Among male voters, Ryan edged out vixens Heather Locklear, Halle Berry and Courtney Cox.

Here at the newspaper, in a small but incredibly accurate poll, Denzel Washington was voted the best compromise (i.e., desirable yet acceptable to Dad), proving that maybe journalists (women, at least) aren't so different from the rest of the population.

Votes from male employees included Ms. Cones and grunge singer/cocaine widow Courtney Love. Guys seem more willing to shock Dad than to please him.

Microsoft computer gazillionaire Bill Gates came in second in-house, which goes along with the theory that every dad wants his daughter to grow up to be a princess - or at least live like one.
