RADFORD - Radford University has designated WBNK (100.7 FM) in Christiansburg and WNRV (990 AM) in Narrows as the new flagship stations for Highlander basketball radio broadcasts in the New River Valley. The country music-formatted stations simulcast as "KOOL Country" most of the time.
Highlander sports updates also will air on WFNR (710 AM), a news-talk station in Christiansburg.
All three stations are owned by Travis Broadcasting Corporation.
The stations already carry a lot of sports programming, including the Washington Redskins and the Atlanta Braves, said Dave Hunziker, the university's manager of radio-TV sports, who announced the pact Thursday.
The new agreement ends a three-year stint for Highlander basketball on WPSK (107.1 FM) in Pulaski. Hunziker expressed appreciation for WPSK's service, but said the university wanted to "move on to stations that put a greater emphasis on sports."

Officer R.T. Jones: Commendation, for processing a stolen van and lifting latent fingerprints that resulted in identifying a suspect.
Sergeant G.W. Blackburn: Commendation, for processing a vehicle that had been broken into and from which an expensive sound system had been stolen. Latent fingerprints were lifted and resulted in identifying a suspect.
Captain J.L. Roop: Honorable Service Ribbon, for responding to the scene of a standoff after officers had tried to serve an emergency commitment order on a subject. The subject pulled a knife and threatened to kill himself and the officers. Roop convinced the subject to surrender the knife, and the subject was taken into custody. Roop risked his own personal safety to bring a potentially explosive situation under control.
Captain J.L. Roop, Captain J.G. Harmon, Lieutenant G.W. Frye and Officer R.T. Jones: As members of the Blue Knight Strike Force (Radford's Drug Task Force), they were recognized for sustained, superior performance in completing job duties. These investigations have resulted in more than 200 arrests and convictions for drug possession and distribution.
