CAR CRASH ON WET ROAD LEAVES 2 BROTHERS DEAD

Two brothers who were passengers in a car belonging to one of them were\ killed Thursday night when the car went out of control on a wet road and struck a pickup truck in the Parrott community of northwestern Pulaski County.

State police identified the victims as 17-year-old Kevin G. Gray of Princeton, W.Va., and 21-year-old Michael Allen Gray of Radford. Michael Gray owned the 1980 two-door Toyota sedan.

The driver, 17-year-old Richard Allen Harless of Parrott, was badly injured. He was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was in serious condition Friday night in the neurotrauma intensive care unit.

Another passenger, 15-year-old Randy Lee Robbins of Parrott, escaped serious injury, as did the occupants of the truck.

The truck was driven by Charles Donald Sifford, 52, of Parrott; his son, James Harvey Sifford, 30, was a passenger.

Trooper D.W. Allen said Harless apparently lost control of the southbound car on a steep curve, crossed to the other side of the narrow road, hit the truck broadside and then struck an embankment along the roadside.

Allen said the narrow road was wet at the time, and that may have been a factor in the wreck.

The crash happened on Virginia 606 near the community's post office.

A nearby resident who called 911 after hearing the crash estimated that it happened about 8:30 p.m.
