BOARD, Herman, 87, of Check, died Friday, June 16, 1995, at his home. Surviving are his wife, Bessie Hale Board of Check; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Melvin Gearhart of Copper Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Mary Board of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Dana Clabbers, Darryl Gearhart, Karyn Farrell, Michael Gearhart, Dale Board, and Sarah Gearhart; one great-granchild, Lucas Board; two sisters, Edith Board and Jettie Board both of Floyd. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Albert L. Naff officiating. Interment will be in Wilson Cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated, however, donations may be made to: Floyd County Rescue Squad or The American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Home, Floyd.

BOWMAN, David Jamison, (``Jack""), 78, a resident of 86 Rex Road in Harrisonburg, died at 2:28 Friday morning, June 16, 1995, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. A son of the late J. Terry and Lula Jamison Bowman, he was born on November 4, 1916, in Franklin County, but moved to Rockingham County in 1933. He attended schools in Augusta County and graduated from Linville-Edom High School in 1936, where he was an outstanding athlete. Mr. Bowman was a dairy farmer along with his Father and Brother. He was instrumental in developing Shen-Rock Holsteins, one of the outstanding herds in the state of Virginia in the late 60's and early 70's. He retired from farming in 1976, and was a member of Greenmount Church of the Brethren. Surviving is a sister, Geneva Westhafer of Staunton; one brother, Ellis Bowman of Harrisonburg, four nieces, including Paige Bowman of Roanoke; three nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Bowman. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Olen B. Landes. His body now rests at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, but the casket will not be opened. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to an organization of your choice.

DUNFORD, Brown, 75, of Route 1, Austinville, The Bethany Community, died Friday, June 16, 1995, in the Malin Health Care Center in Wytheville, VA. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late James and Maggie Taylor Dunford. He was a member of the Flatwoods Church of God, A U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, a member of Grover King Post #1115, VFW and was retired from the New Jersey Zinc Company. He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Duane Dunford. He is survived by his wife, Maggie Au stin Dunford of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Barry Horton, Mt. Airy, N.C.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Nina Dunford, Gilmer and Effie Dunford, Thomas and Marie Dunford, Richard Dunford, all of Austinville; one sister, Mary Austin, Austinville; two half sisters, Evalee Black, Texas, Carolyn Utt, Woodlawn; three half brothers, Burton Dunford, Austinville, Peck Dunford, Wytheville, Raymond Dunford, Martinsville; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 1995, at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. Grover King Post #1115, VFW will conduct graveside military honors. ECHOLS, Gale Harrison, 53, of Blacksburg, died Friday, June 16, 1995, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Born in Montgomery County, Virginia on September 8, 1941, he graduated form Blacksburg High School and attained the degree of L.U.T.C.F. within the insurance industry. Mr. Echols, a prominent businessman, he owned a State Farm Insurance Agency in Blacksburg for 26 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Bernard Echols and a brother, Mitchell Lee Echols. Surviving are his wife, Joann P. Echols; his mother, Mamie Dillon Echols; two daughters, Jennifer Gayle Echols and Julie Elaine Echols, all of Blacksburg; two stepsons and daughter-in-law, John David and Bryn Rose and James French Rose, all of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Arlene E. and Fred Skurupey; one brother and sister-in-law, Shirley B. and Ruth M. Echols; and a special friend, Kenny Dowell, all of Blacksburg. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 1995, at the Blacksburg United Methodist Church with Dr. Vince Guerra and the Rev. JACKSON, Rea, 93, of Laurel Fork, passed away Friday, June 16, 1995, at Twin County Regional Hospital. Surviving include a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Avenelle Jackson of Laurel Fork; two sisters, Mae Marshall of Hillsville, Vida Willard of Hillsville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. JONES, Virginia Hawkins, 91, of Austinville, died Thursday, June 15, 1995, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Alfred M. and Julia Ann Davidson Hawkins. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd M. Jones and two daughters, Marie Jones Grant and Leona Jones Labby. She is survived by one daughter, Emma Jones, Austinville; five grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Iva Jones Lindamood, Austinville, Lucille Jones Hudson, Rt 2, Max Meadows. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 1995, at Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Earnest Chinault and the Rev. Jerry Long officiating. PATRICK, Charlie E. 77, of Radford, died Friday, June 16, 1995 at his home. Surviving are his wife, Prudie Hopkins Patrick, Radford; one daughter and son-in-law, Marie (""Snookie"") and Danny Sowers, Radford; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Harold Dean Patrick, Carl Thomas Patrick, James Edward and Linda Patrick, all of Radford; two sisters, Bess Wyrick and Julina Patrick, both of Crumpler, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Patrick was also preceded in death by a daughter, Wilma D. Patrick. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, at the Gethsemane Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Gibson officiating. PICARELLA, Joseph, 81, of Farmville, died Thursday evening, June 15, 1995. Mr. Picarella was a native of Fayetteville Co., W.Va. He married Ellen Tiller of Giles Co., where he made his home and was a businessman for 35 years. He is survived by his son, Robert G. Picarella of Farmville; one grandson, Gregory K. Picarella of Farmville; one granddaughter, Ashlie E. Picarella of Christiansburg. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday, june 17, 1995, at the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg at 11 a.m. with Sister Molly Bauer officiating. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Herbert and Thelma Thomas; and a brother, Jackie Thomas. TURNER, Clyde Hubert Chief, 84, of Narrows, died Thursday, June 15, 1995, in a Princeton, W.Va. hospital. He was born in Martinsville, VA, on February 25, 1911, and was the son of the late Harvey Russell and Lillie Mae Adams Turner. He was a member of Wabash Lodge #189 I.O.O.F and was a beteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Mary Vincent (Sis) Turner, Narrows; two brothers, Randolph Turner, Harvey R. Turner, Jr., both of Roanoke; two sisters, Marie Crawley, Miss Florita Turner, both of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 1995, in the Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Donald Stansell officiating. TURNER, Lucille Cornelia Holdren, 87, of Route 3, Bedford, died Thursday, June 15, 1995. She was born in Bedford County on November 5, 1907, a daughter of the late William Howard Holdren and Annie Overstreet Holdren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Fred Turner. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and a retired teacher from the Bedford County Public Schools. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy T. and Bobbie G. Johnson, Bedford; a daughter, Mary Fred T. Wood, Heathsville, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, W. Paul and Peggy T. Turner, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Glenn G. Johnson, Spicewood, Texas; Will iam T. Johnson, Houston, Texas, Steven R. WEST, Ora Jett, 89, of Salem, passed away Friday, June 16, 1995. She was the widow of Wilson Cline West and is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eugene W. and Barbara West, Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce W. and Clifton Neighbors, Roanoke County; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Thornton Jett, Lynchburg; two sisters, Maude Burnette, Lynchburg, Myrtle Franklin, Roanoke.
