CAREGIVER GROUP SEEKING COORDINATOR

The Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers program is looking for a coordinator to manage day-to-day activities. Applicants should have a leadership background with a faith congregation and a record of community service. Experience with human service agencies is preferred, and respect for differing faith and beliefs is required.

The coordinator will be a staff representative to the IVC board, will develop working relationships with local faith congregations and will build on the Voluntary Action Center's existing relationships with human service agencies. The coordinator will also develop an interfaith caregiving network of local congregations and human service agencies, assist congregations in identifying caregiving leaders and develop a training series for volunteer caregivers.

William Woodson, an author and scholar from Nashville, Tenn., will appear at several area churches and functions in June. Today, he'll be at the Church of Christ on South Franklin Street in Christiansburg at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. He'll be at the Laurel Hill Church of Christ in Radford Sunday at 10 and 11 a.m., and Sunday-Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Woodson will participate in a breakfast outing to Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway, from 8-10 a.m., and then speak at Slate Mountain Church at 11 a.m. Thursday-June 24 he will appear at the Church of Christ on Eighth and Robertson Streets in Radford at 7:30 p.m., and at 10 and 11 a.m, and 6 p.m. on June 25. 763-9825, 639-3550 or 382-3629.

Paula Markham will talk about her recent vision quest in California Sunday, at 7 p.m. at the Blacksburg Metaphysical Church on Lee Street. On Wednesdays at the church, 7-9 p.m., Estill Putney will conduct seminars on an Introduction to Metaphysics. A $5 donation per session is suggested. Barry Whittemore will speak at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley on Gladewood Drive in Blacksburg at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, 552-5273.

New Haven Baptist Church in Floyd will celebrate its 150th anniversary June 25. The church was established in 1845 and is one of the oldest churches in Floyd County. 745-2856.

MAKING A JOYFUL NOISE

The Singing Echoes from Cleveland, Tenn., will perform at the Radford Pentecostal Holiness Church at 2nd and Ingels Streets today at 7 p.m.

The Heavenly Visions will sing gospel music at Cochram's General Store in Floyd today at 7 p.m. 763-3296.

Performing music at 7 p.m. at Blacksburg Pentecostal Holiness Church, on Warren and Center Streets, today, will be the Scotts.

Evelyn Conner, a gospel musician from Salem, will perform at Bobwhite Boulevard Church of God in Pulaski Sunday at 6 p.m. 389-7136.

"Amazing Grace" is a musical the children of Bethel and Fairlawn United Methodist Churches will present Sunday at 11 a.m. at Fairlawn United Methodist Church. The children will perform the play again June 25 at Bethel United Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m. 639-6675.

The youth choir of Main Street Baptist Church in Christiansburg will present "The Great Artrageous Adventure," a musical, Sunday at 7 p.m. The show is free but offerings will be accepted. 382-2160.

David and the Giants, a band that has been making Christian music for 18 years and recently released their 16th album, "Angels Unaware," will perform at Christiansburg High School July 21 at 7 p.m. Admission is $5. 381-1006.

The Gospel Strings from Christiansburg won top honors over four other bands in the International Country Gospel Music Association regional competition, held in May in Pulaski. The band won in the Bluegrass category.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS

Dayspring Christian Community's free Vacation Bible School, on Clay and Prospect Streets in Blacksburg, is scheduled for Monday-Friday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Youngsters three years old through the 5th grade are welcome. 552-7777 or 951-2430.

Grace Assembly of God in Christiansburg will have Vacation Bible School Monday-Friday, 7-8:45 p.m. The theme is "Jesus' Kids, Totally His." 381-0055.

Park, Asbury, Calvary and Garber Chapel United Methodist Churches will have Vacation Bible School Monday-Friday. Monday's session is 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 6-8 p.m., Friday 5 p.m. Registration occurs Sunday at each church. 382-1548 or 382-5474.

Vacation Bible School at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Blacksburg is scheduled for Monday-Thursday and is open for pre-schoolers through fifth graders. The school begins each night at 6 p.m. with a light supper and finishes at 8:15 p.m. 552-0879.

Vacation Bible School at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford will run from from Monday through Friday at 7 p.m. "Seaside by the Savior" is the theme of the event, in which participants will "travel" through four ports as they learn about the disciples. Carpools are available. 639-0723.

"Seaside by the Savior" is also the theme for Vacation Bible School at Oak Grove Baptist Church, south of Christiansburg on Va. 674. The school will is scheduled Monday-Friday, 7-9 p.m.

Vacation Bible School at Cambria Baptist Church is scheduled for June 25-30 and is open to children ages 4 through sixth grade. The times for Sunday-Thursday are 6:15-8:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 5:45 p.m. June 25. June 26-29 there will be a supper snack at 5:45 p.m. and on June 30 an open house will begin at 7 p.m. 382-2490.

"Seaside with the Savior" is the theme for Vacation Bible School at Abundant Life Fellowship in Pilot June 26-30, 7-9 p.m. The school is open to nusery-school children to adults. Transporation is available. 382-4443.

Blacksburg Baptist Church's Vacation Bible School is June 26-30, 9 -11:30 a.m. It's open to children three years old to fifth grade. 552-3869.

Vacation Bible School at Castle Rock Baptist Church will be Monday-June 26 from 7-8:30 p.m. The theme will be "Windows of the World," and a nursery will be provided.

HAPPENINGS

Homecoming at Bethel United Methodist Church on Lovely Mount Drive in Radford begins June 24 at 6 p.m. with an ice cream social, games, contests, and other events. The church's children will perform a musical, "Amazing Grace," June 25 at 9:30, followed by music, speakers, testimonials and food. 639-6675.

The first annual Women's Day Observance at the First Missionary Baptist Church in New River is set for July 9. The Women's Day Committee is raising money for the church's building fund, and contributions are needed by June 10. 639-5331.

Youths at Auburn United Methodist Church will perform house cleaning, mowing or weeding. Donations will be used to go to a youth conference. 382-4318.

Christian Community Outreach in Radford is having a food outreach on the fourth Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Hall in Fairlawn. Food boxes will be available first come, first served to families and people who meet USDA income criteria. 639-5686.

PEOPLE

Pastor Joe Green of Central United Methodist Church in Radford is leaving to become pastor of a church in Alcoa, Tenn. A good-bye reception for Green and his family is scheduled for Sunday after the worship service. Sunday will be Green's last service at the church.

The next week, June 25, a reception to welcome Green's replacement, the Rev. Warren Wattenbarger, from Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap, is scheduled for after the service. 639-3529.
