The Salem Museum is seeking patriotic items to display with its upcoming exhibit, ``Liberties With Liberty.'' The exhibit explores the many ways in which the idea of liberty has been portrayed throughout U.S. history.
Representations of Lady Liberty, Uncle Sam, the Spirit of Independence, Mother Freedom, the Father of Our Country, Truth, Justice, the American Way and other interpretations are welcome.
The museum is collecting patriotic folk art, crafts, carvings, needlework, textiles, toys, books, clothing, postcards, buttons, photographs, etc., for loan. The museum especially is seeking specific representations of Lady Liberty.
The exhibit opens July 4. The museum will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day and will recognize those who contributed to the exhibit at that time.
If you have items to lend, call or come by the museum at the Brown House in Longwood Park, 801 E. Main St., 389-6760. All items will be returned to the owners in September.
The Salem Museum is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, noon-5 p.m. There is no admission charge.

The publication features a walking tour of the historic downtown district, a seasonal calendar of events, a timeline of Salem's milestones and articles by historians such as Norwood C. Middleton, longtime newspaperman and author of ``Salem: A Virginia Chronicle.''
The publication is supported by local businesses.
The Salem Museum will have free copies of the publication in the gift shop.
