POLICE SAY 3 RAPES ARE UNRELATED

Three women reported they were raped in Roanoke last weekend. Police say the rapes are unrelated; no arrests have been made.

A 31-year-old Roanoke woman reported that between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. Sunday she was raped by a man driving a burgundy van with tinted windows. Police said the woman told them she accepted a ride from the man, who was driving along Patterson Avenue Southwest.

When the woman entered the van, the man threatened her at knifepoint and demanded she take off her clothing. The man held the woman by her throat, raped her and threatened to kill her several times, finally forcing her from the van, police said. Once outside, the man raped her again, police said.

The woman tried to get help by knocking on the doors of several residences in the 2400 block of Patterson, but no one answered. She then flagged down a passing motorist. Police found her clothing in the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Patterson Avenue Southwest. She was treated at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley.

A 30-year-old Roanoke woman told police she was raped at a house on Gilmer Avenue Northwest about 1 a.m. Sunday. Police said the woman was offered a ride by two men. They took her to the house, where all three began drinking. Police said the woman told them she was raped and sodomized by the two men. She refused treatment at a hospital.

Early Saturday, a 19-year-old Roanoke woman told police she was raped by an acquaintance who took her to a party at his home on Williamson Road. The woman did not know the man's name. Police said she told them she was given LSD, but immediately removed it from her mouth. The woman reported she was pushed onto a mattress and raped by the man while others watched. She was treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
