BOYFRIEND CHARGED IN SLAYING

A Bedford County man accused of shooting his girlfriend in the back after an argument Sunday night has been charged with murder.

Joe Gardner Bolling, 48, also was charged with using a firearm in a felony.

He and his 27-year-old girlfriend, Tornia Lynn Wright, had been arguing at his home on Virginia 718 shortly before she was shot, according to Bedford County Sheriff Carl Wells.

Wright died in a rescue helicopter as it prepared to leave for Bedford County Memorial Hospital.

Bolling is being held without bond in the Bedford County Jail.
