BECKNER, Betty Lou Blankenship, 67, of Lexington, died Tuesday, June 20, 1995 at her residence. Born January, 6, 1928, in St. Joseph, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Homer Otis Blankenship. Mrs. Beckner was a member of Neriah Baptist Church and was the widow of John David Beckner. Surviving are three daughters, Carol Ann Harris, Buena Vista, Jane Marie Johnson, Lexington, Lois Jean Beckner, Buena Vista; two sisters, Nancy Walker, Indio, Calif., Peggy Engleman, Hesperia Calif.; two brothers, Jim Blankenship, Bakersfield, California, Bob Blankenship, Kileen, Texas; a sister-in-law, Betty Beckner, Buchanan, Va. Four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 1995, at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Jill Y. BROOKS, Oren A., Jr., (``Jack""), 77, of Arlington, died Friday, June 16, 1995, in Blacksburg. The son of the late Oren A. and Eula Walters Brooks, he was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He was retired from the U. S. Military, having served with both the Air Force and Navy. He is survived by five children, Roberta J. Brooks, Marietta, Ga., George A. Brooks and wife, Leslie, Atlanta, Ga., Loraine Brooks, Roswell, Ga., Grey R. Brooks, Panama City, Fla, John W. Brooks, Decatur, Ga. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, Christiansburg, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to either Boy's Town or the American Cancer Society. CROCKETT, Thomas Bryant Jr., 43, of Roanoke, died Monday, June 19, 1995. Mr. Crockett was an Eagle Scout and a 1970 Graduate of William Fleming High School. He was a member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church, had been employed by several radio stations as an engineer, and was presently employed by the Huckleberry Inn in Christiansburg. He was the owner of Hot Tracks Recording Service and was a well known disc jockey in the New River Valley area. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul. Surviving are his parents, Thomas B. Sr. and Virginia Wood Crockett; sister, Michelle G. Crockett; aunt, Dorothy W. Layman; great-aunt, Kathleen Catron all of Roanoke; uncle, E. F. Crockett, Lake City, Fla.; faithful dog, Parfait; a number of cousins and numerous relatives in Buchanan Co., Va. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Thursday, at Oakey's North Chapel by Pastor Joe Gre ene and the Rev. William Rogers. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. DOWDY, Alma Gertrude, 82, of Newport, Va. died Tuesday morning June 20, 1995, in Lewis-Gale Hospital at Salem, Va. Born at Goodwins Ferry in Giles Co., Va. on August 28, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Other L. and Daisy Kessinger Williams. She was the wife of the late James Cecil ""Tuck"" Dowdy. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Janice Joan and Norris H. Boitnotte of Salem; three grandsons, Norris Wayne Boitnotte of Roanoke Co., David Michael Boitnott of Salem, and Joseph Aaron Boitnott of Deep Gap, N.C.; two great-grandsons, Christopher Boitnott and Gregory Boitnott both of Roanoke Co.; and a niece Norma Williams of Roanoke Co. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at Pembroke, Va. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Va. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke, Wednesday evening from 7 u ntil 9 p.m.

DUNFORD, William Wayne, 77, of Floyd, died Monday in a Radford Hospital. He was a native of Wythe County, and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Hattie Hale Dunford of Floyd; two sisters, Faye Parks of Richmond, and Betty Dingus of Salem; three brothers, Charles W. Dunford of Wytheville, Herbert L. Dunford of Richmond, Olen A. Dunford of Rural Retreat; a brother-in-law, LLoyd Shockey of Salem; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Billy and Diane Chaffin, B. GEORGE, Kathryn Anne, (``Katie''), 8 years old, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, June 17, 1995. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a student at Mountain View Elementary School. Katie has been active in the North Roanoke Recreation Club. She was a avid swimmer and had a great love for the game of soccer. Surviving are her mother and father, Debbie B. and D. Scott George; brothers, Scotty and Kyle George; sister, Healther George and twin sister Emily George, all of the home; grandparents, Bill and Darlene Brown, Salem, Don George, Everett, Wash.; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. HOWELL, James H., (``Jim""), 57, of Vinton, died Monday, June 19, 1995, at his home. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed by Champion International of Athens, Ga., and a member of Lynn Haven Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Jean Howell. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Rick Mowbray, Jackie and Tim Bobbitt, all of Bedford Co., Tammy and Mark Simmons, Roanoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Timmy and Debbie Howell, Roanoke; two grandchildren, Shane and Jamey Bobbitt; a sister, Helen Stinnett, Knoxville, Tenn. JEWELL, Edwin Raynard, 95, of Cherry Hill, N.J., formerly of Roanoke, died Saturday, June 17, 1995, in a Cherry Hill Hospital. He was a retired accountant and partner in Brown, Edwards, and Company. Prior to entering the field of accounting, he was a telegraph operator for the Norfolk and Western and the Virginia Railroads. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Roanoke, where he served as a Trustee, Chairman of the Board of Deacons and the Finance Committee; teacher of the Businessmen's Bible Class; Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Family Life Center; and President of the Men's Brotherhood. He had been an active member of Melrose Baptist Church before his association with First Baptist and was on the general board of the Baptist General Association of Virginia from 1966 until 1973. He was a life member of the Kiwanis Club of Roanoke and a member of Melrose Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the Kazim Temple. He was precdeceased by his wife, Blanche M. Jewell. Survivors are two daughters and son-in-law, Rozella J. Bower, Cinnaminson, N.J., Nellrena J. and Ronald D. Carr, Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Leisel G., Kristen R. and Dorothy L. Bower all of Cinnaminson, N.J., Wendyll D. Carr, Nashville, Tenn., Martha Gayle Hughes, Knoxville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Colin Hughes; two sisters, Nina J. Burdette of Alexandra, Lorene J. Evans of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Landon R. Jewell, Browns Mills, N.J. MASTIN, Roy Leonidas Jr., 80, of Roanoke, died Monday evening, June 19, 1995. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Garrett Mastin. Surviving are his wife, Leila Foltz Mastin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Lee and Majorie Mastin, John Randolph and Rebecca Mastin; a sister, Margaret Humphreys; two stepdaughters, Sally Lackery, Jennette Abbott; four grandchildren, Garrett Mastin, Majorie Mastin, Whitfield Mastin, John Mastin; six stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren. He wa s the owner of Roanoke Coal Company. Mr. Mastin was also a partner in the real estate firms of Coleman, Mastin; Coleman, Mastin, Sowder; Coleman, Mastin, Glasgow; and the owner of Mastin Associates, which merged with Mastin, Kirkland, Bolling, Inc., where he worked until retirement. Friends may visit the family at St. John's Episcopal Church Chapel between 7 and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted from St. John's Episcopal Church on Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David C. ``Kirk"" Brown and the Rev. Carlotta B. ``Lottie"" Cochran officiating. MCCORKEL, Hugh Dorsey, 80, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Narrows, died Monday, June 19, 1995. He was born in Claxton, Ga. on September 21, 1914. He was a retired marine inspector for the Esso Oil Company. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice Midkiff McCorkel. He is survived by a son, Hugh David McCorkel of Houston, Texas; brothers, Edward McCorkel of Claxton, Ga. and Harold McCorkel, of Statesboro, Ga.; a sister, Geneva Mattox, of Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's in Narrows, Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.

MCGEORGE, William Wesley Jr., (""Buddy"") 65, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Tuesday, June 20, 1995 at his home after an illness. Born January 15, 1930, in Roanoke, Va. he was a son of the late William W. Sr., and Emma (Craghead) McGeorge. Mr. McGeorge graduated from Jefferson High School, served in the U.S. Navy, attended Roanoke College, and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Va. Following employment for 32 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering Research and Development Laboratories, Ft. Belvoir, Va. he retired to North Myrtle Beach in 1985. Mr. McGeorge was a member of Springfield-Franconia Host Lions Club in Northern, Va. 1971-85, serving as president in 1979-80. Upon transfer of membership to Ocean Drive Beach Lions Club in 1985, he served as secretary since 1986. For 1994-95 he was honored as Lion of the Year by his club, made a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Clubs International Foundation, and received the International President's Certificate of Appreciation for humanitarian service. He was a member of the Chancel/Wesley Choirs and Seniors Chorus of First United Methodist Church, Myrtle Beach and a South Carolina Real Estate Broker of North Myrtle Beach. Survivors include his wife, Roselle McGeorge; a son William W. McGeorge, III., of Woodbridge, Va.; a step-son, Rolfe N. Sauls, Raleigh N.C.; four sisters, Nancy McGeorge and Emogene Hess, Roanoke, Jackie Hadden, Lynchburg, Peggy Powell, Gloucester; three brothers, Richard and Paul McGeorge, Orange County, Calif., and Robert McGeorge, Roanoke; three grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; grand nieces and grand nephews. The family will receive friends at the home, 807 Gayle St., from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday evening, June 24,1995. WILSON, Joseph W., of Roanoke, died Monday, June 19, 1995, in a local hospital. He was the retired owner of Wilson Electric Company. Surviving are his wife, Lou Ann Wilson, Roanoke; two sisters, Georgie Simmons and Alice Landsdown both of Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Sheila Wilson; grandson, Joshua M. WOOD, Mae Dalton, 80, of 1150 Vinyard Rd., Vinton, and formerly of Hurt, died Tuesday, June 20, 1995, in Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born in Campbell Co. February 13, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Finney Dalton and Cora Myers Dalton. She was a member of Vinton Baptist Church and retired from Burlington Mills in Vinton. She is survived by one brother, Howard L. Dalton of Hurt; five sisters, Amy Dove of Altavista, Isabelle Simpson of Des Moines, Iowa, Vernelle Henderson of Pensacola, Fla.., Eleanor Scruggs and Lois Grubbs both of Hurt. WRIGHT, Torina Lynn, of Bedford, died Monday, June 19, 1995, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. Torina was born April 28, 1968, and was employed by Campbell's Rest Home. She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, Porscha D. Wright; one son, Almondo J. Wright; one brother, James W. Wright; two sisters, Deborah D. Wright, Stacey A. Wright, all of Bedford; her mother, Delores M. Wright, Bedford; her father, Edmond Brown, Goodview; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Katie Wright, Bedford; paternal grandmother, Mrs. A. L.
