Class sessions continue for eight weeks. The course fee is $52.
The idea behind the course is to reduce computer anxiety among those who believe - mistakenly - that computers are only for the young.
Instructor Ervin White, a self-described codger, says the course provides insight on what computers are and how to control them. He tries to keep the "computer talk" to a minimum and sticks to terms everyone understands.
"We are not going to study a complicated piece of equipment," White said. "Computers are just another step in the development of tools for humans; there is nothing to fear."
White says computer users don't need to know what's under the hood any more than motorists do when they drive their cars.
Registration is now available. For more information, call 674-3613 or 381-7127.
\ The Legal Aid Society of the New River Valley sponsors a free community seminar, "Caring for the Elderly: What Does our Community Offer?" Guest speaker is Etta Virginia Butler Hopkins, coordinator of senior human services community programs for Virginia's Department for the Aging.
Representatives of local agencies that serve seniors also are to be on hand to answer questions about their services.
