Tultex is ranked 17th in revenue

Tultex Corp., a fleecewear maker in Martinsville, posted the 17th-highest revenue of 100 leading companies in the sewn products industry last year, Apparel Industry magazine said.

With sales of $565 million, Tultex outperformed such names as Guess? Inc. of Los Angeles (21st), Haggar Corp. of Dallas (22nd) and Reebok International of Stoughton, Mass., (23rd).

Fieldcrest Cannon Inc. of Eden, N.C., which makes towels in Henry County, was 10th with revenue of $1.06 billion last year.

Grundy center is project of year

GRUNDY - The Tri-Cities Chapter of Associated General Contractors has named the Grundy Community Center in Buchanan County the 1994 Project of the Year among projects costing up to $1.5 million.

The community center, on the third floor of a parking garage in downtown Grundy, houses three movie theaters, one of which has a stage for performances or large group meetings, and a concessions area, lobby and restrooms.

Funding was provided by the town, which owns the center, along with Buchanan County, the state and private donations. The architect was Thompson & Litton of Wise and the general contractor was J.A. Street & Associates, Blountville, Tenn.
