BUSINESSMAN ROY MASTIN JR. DIES AT 80

Roy L. Mastin Jr., the second of three generations of successful Roanoke businessmen, died Monday evening of cancer. He was 80.

Mastin was owner of the Roanoke Coal Co., but was best known as a real estate agent in the Roanoke area. He got into the real estate business in 1956, forming a partnership with Aylett Coleman that lasted 17 years, until it was dissolved in 1973. Coleman, who died last year, established his own company and eventually got into the radio business with WXLK-FM.

Mastin also established his own business, which eventually merged with Mastin, Kirkland, Bolling Inc., a firm founded in 1972 by his son, R. Lee Mastin. He worked at MKB until his retirement.

Mastin's father, Roy Mastin Sr., was treasurer of Virginia Bridge Co.
