SHOOTING VICTIM IN CRITICAL CONDITION

A 14-year-old shot by his friend remained in critical condition Wednesday, police said. The incident appears to be accidental.

Police did not release the name of the boys involved and would only say the shooting occurred as the two planned to go target practicing. The victim was shot at close range in the upper part of his chest by a 12-gauge shotgun at a home in the 3500 block of Bradshaw Road. He remained in the neuro-intensive care unit at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, his voice box badly damaged.

Police said they would not release details of the incident while it is under investigation.
