EVERETT, Kathryn Martin, 85, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, June 21, 1995, in the Brandon Oaks Lutheran Home, Roanoke. She was a native of Chilhowie and a former resident of Knoxville, Tenn. She is survived by one sister, Ruth M. Carter, Marion; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Chilhowie, with the Rev. Charles E. Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Saint James Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Chilhowie Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Williams Funeral Home.
GROW, Herbert Leslie, 94, of Lexington, died Wednesday, June 21, 1995, at his residence. Born December 8, 1900, he was the son of the late John C. Grow and Jennie Wiseman Grow. Mr. Grow was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Honorary Member of Midlothian Mineral Society, and was a retired Farmer and Weaver for Burlington Industries of Glasgow. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Link Grow. Surviving are two daughters, Gwendolyn Ruckman, Lexington, Nancy Jane Grim, Lexington; two sons, Edwin Grow, Grafton, Hugh F. Grow, Winston-Salem, N.C.; special friends, Diane Bane, Lexington; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be from the Graveside at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Friday, June 23, 1995, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William K. Thomas assisted by the Rev. Bill Poston. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, PO Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450. KAYTON, Gladys Chaplin, 69, of Rockbridge Baths, died Wednesday, June 21, 1995, at her residence. Born August 31, 1925, in Rockbridge Co., she was the daughter of the late John Williams Henry Chaplin and Jennie Florence Sensabaugh Chaplin. Mrs. Kayton was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and of the United Methodist Women, and she was a retired machine operator for Burlington Industries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Golden Turman (Dusty) Kayton; a son-in-law, Frank Gaines; a brother, John Junior Chaplin; and a half sister, Viola Armstrong. Surviving are a daughter, Jennie K. Gaines, Lexington; daughter and son-in-law, Diane K. and Freddie Higgins, Buena Vista; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph William and Donna Kayton, Rockbridge Baths; one sister, Helen C. McManama, Narrows; three brothers, William Richard Chaplin, Chester, Donald L. LIGHT, Thomas L. Sr., 49, of Nashua, N.H., died Thursday, June 8, 1995 in Bonn Germany after a brief illness, while on a business trip. He was born in Roanoke, Va. on June 27, 1945 and was the son of the late, Walter A. and Helen A. (McGee) Light. Mr. Light was educated in the Botetourt County School System and was a graduate of Lord Botetourt High School. He attended Virginia Technical University. He was employed as a Director of Consulting Services for B. G. S . Systems, Waltham, Mass. and has been a resident of the Nashua, Amherst, Milford area for the past 10 years. Mr. Light is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Ann (Morse) Light, Nashua; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa J. and Jerry Stoner of Salem; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Thomas L. Jr., and Tammy Light, Roanoke, James K. Light, Ruther Glen, Va., Robert E. Light, Salem; granddaughter, Danielle T. Paro, Salem; sister and her husband, Carolyn and William Morris, Blakes, Va.; uncle, S. S. McGee Jr., Roanoke; two nieces. She was born in Bedford County October 2, 1921, a daughter of the late Warren Delmar Saunders and Emma Craghead Saunders. She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. She was a member of Morgan's Baptist Church, Moneta, a graduate of Lynchburg College and taught in the Bedford Public School System for many years. She is survived by her husband, C. Lynwood Roberts; her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne R. and W. Earl King, Casselberry, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kimberly King and Kelley King; also many nieces and nephews. Born in Nemours, W.Va., he was a son of the late James Arthur Sr. and Alma Slaughter Tate. He was the husband of the late Fay Sarver Tate, was a retired auto mechanic and a veteran of the U. S. She was born in Bedford on October 15, 1916, a daughter of the late Charles Edward McFall and Emma Wingfield McFall. She was the widow of Charles James Tinsley, and was a retired employee of J.C. Penny. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, the Blue Ridge Young at Heart Group, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign War Post #2157. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward G. and Gail M. George, Columbus, Ohio; a granddaughter, Courtney Teresa George, Columbus, Ohio; a grandson, Michael Ray George, New York, N.Y.; two brothers, Joe McFall and John McFall, both of Bedford; two sisters, Annie Patterson and Ethel H opkins, both of Bedford.
