The American Cancer Society raised more than $90,000 for the Roanoke/Franklin Unit at its fourth annual "Relay for Life" May 19 and 20 at Victory Stadium.

More than1,500 area residents helped to raise $20,000 for LOA Area Agency on Aging's Meals on Wheels Program at the fifth annual "Lunch on the Lawn," June 9. The funds will provide 8,000 meals to the valley's homebound elderly residents.

The YMCA of the Roanoke Valley will use the $78,579 raised recently by its "Winners for Life" campaign volunteers to expand its outreach programs for the valley's youth, including an after school enrichment program, sports teams and The Magic Place child care program.

A $20,000 grant from the Helene Fuld Health Trust will fund will purchase two computer workstations, a television and video cassette recorder and instructional materials for the Virginia Western Community College nursing program. The trust supports nursing education initiatives in the United States and abroad.
