ALEXANDRIA, Va. - William Aramony, who built the United Way into a powerhouse national charity, was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison for systematically fleecing the organization to pay for a free-spending lifestyle.
Aramony was convicted in April of federal fraud and conspiracy charges. U.S. District Judge Claude M. Hilton said Aramony, who plans an appeal, must report to a minimum-security federal prison as soon as space is available. He remains free on bond until then.

LAS VEGAS - Six women who claimed they were sexually assaulted during a 1991 convention of military aviators have reached settlements with the San Diego-based Tailhook Association.
The amounts of the settlements, approved Wednesday in Las Vegas district court, weren't revealed, but an attorney for two of the women said his clients had accepted six-figure sums.
