TOWN CENTER IN DUBLIN'S NEW BUDGET

Dublin will make a start on its proposed Town Center in its industrial park as part of its $2.4 million budget for the coming year.

The Town Center will include a new post office, replacing the cramped and overcrowded facility in downtown Dublin, and a Town Hall building which is to include Pulaski County services for residents of this part of the county.

The budget, passed unanimously Thursday at a special Town Council meeting, includes $20,000 for engineering and survey fees in connection with the Town Center.

Council also voted on zoning for the Industrial Park and other land that became part of the town this year under an annexation agreement with the county. The 14 acres that will eventually include the Town Center buildings and sections for future development were zoned as B-2 general business. The rest of the new territory, including parcels of land along Bagging Plant Road where industry already exists, were zoned M-1 for manufacturing.

The budget made no changes in real-estate or personal-property tax rates or water, sewer or sanitation rates.

Its general fund increased by $171,375, reflecting some increase in tax revenue and income from land sales in the industrial park and town shop areas. Its enterprise fund will gain $194,671, mainly from the lease of industrial property.

The budget includes money for improvements to the main industrial park building. Capital improvements include buying a fire truck, replacing other vehicles and improving town streets and sidewalks.
