Joyce L. Walter is at work getting the renovated, redesigned center in shape for reopening before the fall semester.
The health center, located in Moffett Hall, will have a new handicapped-accessible entrance, higher ceilings and more of an open look, according to a statement released by the university.
Walter will focus on efficiency in the redesign. "The flow will be different from the current system," she said. "Instead of returning to the waiting room, treated students will receive their medication and exit the center elsewhere, creating a circular pattern."
Walter earned a master's degree in health science from Penn State University. She most recently served as program coordinator for the health-education program at the University of Delaware.
Last month, the university's Board of Visitors chose a 2-year-old Connecticut company, Collegiate Health Care, to run its student health service. Radford is the first major public university in Virginia to take that step, which came after complaints from students about service and concerns from administrators about the cost of running the center.
