MAN CHARGED IN 1994 BANK ROBBERY

A federal grand jury on Friday indicted a man on charges stemming from a bank robbery more than a year ago.

Roosevelt Hairston Jr., whose age and address were unavailable, is accused of stealing $3,859 from the First Union National Bank branch on U.S. 460 in Northeast Roanoke.

The man who robbed the bank March 11, 1994, handed a teller a note that said he had a gun. He also handed the teller a yellow container to fill with money.

The man never displayed a gun, but kept his hand in his pocket throughout the robbery, which occurred during lunch hour on a Friday.
