Trust to renovate Auditorium

RURAL RETREAT - A $100,000 trust fund established by the late Dr. Charles E. Davis Jr. will help renovate the auditorium at Rural Retreat High School.

Davis, a physician and surgeon who served as president of the Medical Society of Virginia, established the fund before his death last March 17. He graduated from the high school in 1933 before attending Roanoke College and the University of Virginia, where he earned his medical degree in 1940.

The Wythe County School Board formally received the trust this month. Its purpose, in Davis's words, was "to improve the cultural, educational and/or recreational status of this remarkable area which I love very much." The renovation to the auditorium will benefit students, staff, parents and the community.
