ARGUMENT ENDS WITH SHOOTING

A man who was shot in the face Saturday night after passing out on another man's Northwest Roanoke lawn was still being treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital Sunday night.

The hospital would not release information Sunday on the condition of 37-year-old Ronald M. Neely, but police said he was in stable condition early Sunday morning.

Lewis Haynes, 59, of Clifton Street Northwest was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

According to Roanoke police, Haynes told police he came home about 9 p.m. and found Neely passed out against Haynes' car. He said he asked Neely, whom he did not know, to move away from the car. Haynes went into his house, but came back outside later to find Neely in his yard.

Haynes told police he ordered Neely to leave, and the two began arguing. Haynes said Neely hit him in the face; that's when he allegedly shot Neely.

Haynes was free Sunday on $5,000 bond.
