J.L. DILLON, PUBLISHER, DIES AT 66

James Lee Dillon, a corporate vice president for Media General Inc. since 1977 and decorated longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts, died Saturday at his home. He was 66.

``He was the first and only publisher of Virginia Business magazine,'' said J. Stewart Bryan III, chief executive officer of Media General Inc. ``His sense of civic responsibility was very deep, especially with the Boy Scouts and the Drug Coalition.''

``Jim Dillon was an outstanding citizen of Richmond. He was first and foremost a sales and marketing executive at both Richmond Newspapers and later in a variety of assignments with Media General,'' said J. Stewart Bryan III, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Media General Inc.

Dillon, a native of Martinsville, joined Richmond Newspapers Inc. in 1961. He was director of advertising for eight years beginning in 1965 and served concurrently as business manager in 1971-72.

In 1973, he was promoted to vice president and general manager and, four years later, assumed the position of corporate vice president.

Dillon was named vice president of Media General Business Communications Inc. and publisher of Virginia Business magazine in 1986.

In 1983, Dillon received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award given to an adult by a Boy Scout council.
