Akers; two stepdaughters, Rose White and Linda Bryant, Hinesville, Ga.; stepson, George Akers, Fincastle; a foster daughter, Mary Lou Saunders, Roanoke; three grandsons; one granddaughter. Funeral services will be at Oakey's North Chapel 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 1995, with Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. The family will receive friends at Oakey's North Chapel 7 to 9 p.m.

BEATTY, Carrie Whorley Baker, 71, of Roanoke, died Monday, June 26, 1995, in a local hospital. Surviving are her husband, J. Preston Beatty; daughter, Brenda G. McKay; son, Ronald A. Baker both of Owosso, Mich.; sisters, Rachel Ayres and Ruth Whorley both of Roanoke, Doris Davis of Laurel, Md.; one brother, Alonzo Whorley of Roanoke; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Carrie was a long time member of New Life Temple of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted at New Life Temple, 5745 Airport Rd., N.W., 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 1995. Pastor Walter L. CALLIS, Clarence Mike, 66, of Roanoke, died Monday, June 26, 1995, at the VA Hospital, Salem, Va. Mr. Callis was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Fisher C allis; his parents, Roy E. and Myrtonn W. Callis; and his brother, Roy Edwin Callis Jr. He was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church, Halifax Co., Va. Mr. Callis was an Army Veteran of World War II and Korea. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3 and the Roanoke D.A.V. Mr. Callis is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Jackie Callis; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren all of York, Penn.; a stepdaughter, Darlene G. Coulter and two stepgrandchildren all of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and George Janosko; brother, Tracy G. Callis; sister, Cynthia C. Greer; a niece, Laurel J. CUNNINGHAM, Marie Kingrea, 79, of Salem, died Monday, June 26, 1995. She was a long time member of First Christian Church, Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Cunningham. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Pat Minahan, Salem; grandson, Joe Minahan; granddaughter, Katherine Minahan, both of Salem; sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Herbert Hale, Salem; numerous nieces and nephews. ENGLISH, Earlie Hugh, 88, of Bedford, formerly of Goodview, passed away Sunday, June 25, 1995, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, Bedford. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Waldron English; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Elwood Bramlett, Vinton; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry M. and Betty English, Bedford; four grandsons, Jeffrey, Ronnie, Danny Bramlett and Timmy English; two granddaughters, Kim Turpin and Mandy Harmon; 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from the Lotz Vinton Chapel at 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 28. Burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. FRANTZ, Ella Peck, 97, of Roanoke, formerly of Fincastle, died Monday, June 26, 1995, at Friendship Manor. She was born February 2, 1898, in Fincastle, the daughter of the late Charles Lewis Peck and Betty Morgan Peck. She attended Madison College in 1917-1919 and graduated with honors in 1956. On August 18, 1921, she married Louis Thornton Frantz of Daleville. Her teaching began in 1919, at Troutville High School; and from 1922 to 1923 at Fincastle High School. She retired from teaching in 1924 to have her family. She re-entered teaching at Colonial School in Blue Ridge in 1944 until 1948. She then transferred to Fincastle Elementary School in 1948, where she taught until retirement in 1965. She then taught homebound children until 1972. She was the oldest living member of the Fincastle Presbyterian Church and served as organist, Sunday School teacher, circle leader, and Elder. She helped organize the Botetourt County Home Demonstration Group in 1928 and the Botetourt County Senior Citizen's Group in 1970 and was active in both organizations plus the Fincastle Garden Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen Boyd of Henderson, N.C.; sons, Robert Louis Frantz of State College, Penn., Richard Henry Frantz of Orlando, Fla.; twin nieces raised in her home, Josephine Peck Conn of Colonial Heights and Linda Peck Smith of Coos Bay, Oregon; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She lived on the Homeplace in Fincastle until 1987, when she moved to Friendship Manor. Friends will be received at Rader Funeral Home, Troutville from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 27. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at the Fincastle Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fincastle Presbyterian Church.

HALLER, Miss Virginia Doriot, of Salem, died on Tuesday, June 13, 1995, at the United Methodist Home in Roanoke. Miss Haller was born in Pocahontas, Va., in 1898. She was the daughter of Dr. John Paulette Haller and Mrs. Margaret Whitman Haller of Wytheville. She was educated in Virginia and at Columbia University where she received her Masters Degree in Classics. After a long and illustrious teaching career. Miss Haller retired to her home in Salem where she remained active in civic affairs, especially the Virginia Historical Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. A service of Christian Burial will be held at the grave site in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, Va., on Saturday, August 19, 1995, at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Copenhaver of St. Paul's Episcopal Church officiating, assisted by Mrs. Mary Orville. Arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son, Salem.

HODGES, Mary Gladys, 89, of Glade Hill, died Monday, June 26, 1995 at Franklin Manor Adult Rest Home, Rocky Mount, Va. Born July 6, 1905, she was the daughter of the late George William and Cora Lucy Hodges. Surviving are her special friend, Essie Doss, Rocky Mount, Va.; and several cousins. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 1995 at the Hodges Family Cemetery, Sontag, Va. with the Rev. Charles Comer officiating. LARGEN, Effie DeHart, 75, of South Pasadena, Fla., formerly of Radford, Va., died Tuesday, June 20, 1995, at Deluxe Care Inn. She came here in 1975 from Radford, Va., was a registered nurse, served in the Army during World War II, and was owner of a nursing home in Radford, Va. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. Survivors include her husband, Robert; one son, Robert Largen Jr.; one brother, Joseph DeHart, Radford, Va.; four sisters, Agnes Allen, Richmond, Va., Willie Mae Agnew, Roanoke, Va., Lillian Dickerson, Willis, Va., India DeHart, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one granddaughter, Mimi Largen, Orlando, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. LYNCH, Thomas Harrison, 75, of Rocky Mount, died Sunday, June 25, 1995, in Franklin Memorial Hospital, Rocky Mount, Va. Born July 19, 1919, he was the son of the late Vernon Lee and Eliza Harrison Lynch. He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Harrison Lynch Jr. and Dr. Vernon L. Lynch II. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marines. He was the founder of Lynch Funeral Home and dedicated over fifty years to the funeral service. Surviving are his wife, Alma W. Lynch of the home; his daughter, Susan Lynch Wampler, Collinsville; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard A. and Charlene B. Lynch, Roanoke; five grandchildren, Kevin Wampler, Collinsville, Susi E. Wampler, Collinsville, Sean Andrew Lynch, Roanoke, Bejamin Richard Lynch, Roanoke and Amanda Catherine Lynch, Roanoke; his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Hunt Cooper, Rocky Mount. MITCHELL, Larence Emmett, 78, of Radford, passed away Monday, June 26, 1995, at Pulaski Community Hospital. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during WWII and was retired from Central Lumber Co. in Radford. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlie Hollandsworth Mitchell. Survivors include two sons, Noel Mitchell of Charleston, W.Va., James Scott Mitchell, Macon, Ga; five grandchildren; five great-grandchil dren. MOORE, Doris, 98, of Blacksburg, died Monday, June 26, 1995, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville. She was born November 8, 1896, to the late Noble and Josephine Smith Moore in Crystal Springs, Miss. She was a member of the D.A.R., Falls Church Chapter and also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Moore; one sister-in-law, Anna Lee Moore; one niece and nephew, Patsy and Noble Moore, all of Blacksburg; two special friends, Debbie Gravely, Christiansburg, Betsy Wurtz, Blacksburg. RICHARDSON, Marie Elizabeth Hurt, 82, of Rt. 4, Moneta, passed Monday, June 26, 1995, in a local hospital. She was a retired employee of Halmode of Moneta. She was the widow of Everett S. Richardson and a long time member of Emmaus United Methodist Church of Moneta. Survivors include one son, Everett Maynard and wife, Carol Richardson of Salem; three daughters, Margie Richardson Thomas and husband, Allen (Whitey), Vinton, Georgie Richardson Conner and husband, James (Jim), Roanoke Co., Judy Richardson Cundiff McFaden, Moneta; one brother, Donald W. Hurt, Levitown, Penn.; three sisters, Ruby H. Moser, Roanoke, Beatrice H. Swanson, Moneta, Doris H. Loyd, Rockville, Md.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. SNIDER, Virginia Ruth, 91, of Marion, died Monday, June 26, 1995, at her home. She was the widow of Ralph Currin Snider Sr. and was preceded in death by her parents, William M. and Lucy CeDella Stone Cornett and her brother, W. Barnard Cornett. She graduated from Elk Creek Training School, attended Marion Junior College and was a former teacher in Smyth County Schools. She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, R.C. Snider Jr. of Marion and Robert Preston Sr. and Joan Snider of Glade Spring; three daughters, Mrs. George (Catherine) Walker, Mrs. Dempsey (Dorothy) Odham and Mrs. Tom B. (Mary Louise) Cullop Jr. all of Marion; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, a t Mount Carmel Cemetery with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. TAYLOR, Ora Frances Henson, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, June 25, 1995, in the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Born in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late James Arthur and Cora Henson. She was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shelby T. and James E. Cash, Buena Vista; a sister, Nettie Simpson, Buena Vista; a grandson, Vincent S. Cash and wife, Melody M. Cash, Charlottesville. WATTS, Malcom Haywood Sr., 68, of 327 Bath St., Clifton Forge, died Sunday, June 25, 1995, at Alleghany Regional Hospital. He was born in South Boston on August 23, 1926, son of the late Ira Wyche and Sallie Cox Watts, retired from Virginia Power and was of the Methodist faith. Member of Clifton Forge Moose Lodge and American Legion and served in U.S. Marine Corp during WW II. He is survived by one daughter, Sharon Watts of Blue Ridge, Va.; two sons and daughter-in-law, Malcolm Watts and Cheree Watts Jr. of Vinton, and Garrett Watts of Fincastle; one brother, Ira Wesley Watts of South Boston; and three nieces. The body will be taken Tuesday to the Brooks Funeral Home, 115 Main St., South Boston with visitation Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Graveside services will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. at the Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, South Boston, with the Rev.
