LIGHTNING VICTIM CRITICAL

A Radford University student struck by lightning outside RFK stadium in Washington, D.C., last weekend remains in critical condition, hospital officials said Tuesday.

Kristen Daniel, 20, of Danville, is in the Intensive Care Unit of D.C. General Hospital, breathing with the assistance of a respirator.

Daniel was sitting under a tree Sunday, awaiting the Grateful Dead-Bob Dylan concert, when the lightning hit. Two fans seated beside her escaped serious injury and were released Monday from George Washington University Medical Center.

Though Daniel was not breathing when rescue workers arrived, fans had started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Rescue workers revived her before she was taken to the hospital.
