`Long Way Home's' 25th

RADFORD - "The Long Way Home," Radford's outdoor historical drama about Mary Draper Ingles' escape from Shawnee captivity and her journey home, will celebrate its 25th year at tonight's performance. The first production was held June 29, 1971.

In observance of the anniversary, the cast is throwing a birthday party at tonight's show. Several guests have been invited and cake will be served.

The drama is presented each Thursday through Saturday during the summer at the Ingles Homestead Amphitheater at the home site and grave of Mary Draper Ingles. Historical tours are offered each evening, beginning at 7 p.m. Curtain time for the production is 8:30 p.m.

Heather Massie of Blacksburg plays the leading role. Director Bob Legg is leaving to pursue work on an advanced degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Kristi Pomo, a voice instructor at Radford University, will take over as director for the remainder of the season.

Pulaski courthouse videos produced

PULASKI - Visitors touring the Old Pulaski County Courthouse can now view a video on its fire and reconstruction.

Another video is available on the American Indian heritage in the New River Valley.

The courthouse is open for self-guided tours of heritage exhibits on the first Saturday of each month from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Groups can schedule tours at other times by calling 980-7845 two weeks in advance.

IRS Special Enrollment Exam

DUBLIN - Accounting professionals interested in taking the IRS Special Enrollment Exam can register to attend a workshop at New River Community College.

The three-day workshop will prepare participants to qualify to become certified enrolled agents.

Workshop instruction is based on actual exam questions and answers, formulas and aids to assist participants in understanding and working problems quickly and accurately. Exam-specific test-taking techniques will also be presented.

Horse show Sunday in Dublin

DUBLIN - The Mountain Trails 4-H Club will hold an open horse show Sunday at 1 p.m. at the New River Valley Fairgrounds in Dublin. There will be 20 classes, including walking, saddlebred, western, Arabian, barrel racing and pole bending. Entry fee is $5. Admission to the show is free. Horses must have negative Coggins Test.
