REPORTED EARNINGS

Shoney's Inc., Nashville, Tenn.-based restaurant chain, reported net income of $8.5 million, or 20 cents per share, on revenues of $239.5 million for its second quarter ended May 14, compared with year-earlier $16.9 million, or 41 cents per share, on revenues of $242 million. For the first half, the company reported only net income, which was $19.6 million, down from year-earlier $35.6 million.

Shorewood Packaging

Shorewood Packaging Corp., New York maker of paperboard packaging with operations in Roanoke, reported net earnings of $22.5 million, or $1.17 per share, on sales of $357 million for its fiscal year ended April 29, compared with year-earlier $6.3 million, or 35 cents per share, on sales of $216.5 million. For its fourth quarter, net earnings were $4.8 million, or 24 cents per share, on sales of $89.6 million, compared with year-earlier $4.4 million, or 24 cents per share, on sales of $77.6 million.

Vaughan Furniture

Vaughan Furniture Co., Galax manufacturer of residential furniture, reported after-tax profit of $1.7 million, or 62 cents per share, on sales of $25.8 million for its second quarter ended June 2, compared with year-earlier $718,968, or 261/2 cents, on sales of $24.6 million. For its first half, profit was $2.3 million, or 83 cents per share, on sales of $50.7 million, compared with year-earlier $1.1 million, or 42 cents per share, on sales of $46.5 million.
