WEST SIDE CHURCH OF CHRIST, 1705 Starview Drive in Salem, has planned a one-day vacation Bible school July 22 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. It will be open to children 3 through 10 with registration deadline July 3. Call 389-9139.

O H V. JON H N B NN , associate pastor of First United Methodist Church in Salem for the past four years, has been transferred to Bridgewater United Methodist Church. He begins his new assignment Sunday and will be succeeded in Salem by the Rev. Alan D. Thorne of Newport in Giles County.

ROANOKE VALLEY SOUTHERN BAPTISTS are raising funds to construct a new cottage for developmentally disabled women on the grounds of the Virginia Baptist Childrens' Home in Salem. The cottage, which will be across a road from the present house for male retarded adults, has received some funds but more are needed before construction begins. ROANOKE AREA MINISTRIES, an interfaith agency that helps with emergency needs, has received a $4,000 grant from Mazon, a national Jewish hunger relief organization. The money will be used for hot meals at RAM House day shelter.

ROANOKE'S TWO JEWISH CONGREGATIONS, Temple Emanuel and Beth Israel Synagogue, will begin joint Friday evening services on July 7 at 8:15. Sabbath Eve worship will be held on a rotating basis at the two houses of worship through Aug. 25. The first service will be at the temple on Brambleton Avenue at Persinger Road Southwest.
