OPERA ROANOKE ANNOUNCES SEASON|

Puccini's ``Madama Butterfly,'' Purcell's ``Dido and Aeneas'' and Bernstein's ``Candide'' will comprise Opera Roanoke's 1995-96 season, Craig Fields, the company's general director, announced.

``Madama Butterfly,'' including New York City Opera soprano Pamela Myers in the title role, will open Opera Roanoke's 18th season on Sept. 23, 25, 27 and 29 at Mill Mountain Theatre. It will be sung in Italian with English supertitles.

A masterwork from the English baroque, ``Dido and Aeneas'' will be performed with ballet and sung in English, accompanied by string orchestra and chorus. Performances are in Roanoke College's Olin Theater on Jan. 19 and 20.

Composed by Leonard Bernstein, ``Candide'' will be staged by guest director Ben Krywosz, co-artistic director of the New Music Theatre Ensemle of Minneapolis. Fields will conduct. Performances are at Olin Theater on June 15, 17, 19 and 21.

Season subscriptions are now on sale; single tickets will go on sale later in the summer.
