Dr. Larry Meador and Dr. Jim McClung,oral surgeons, were named Volunteers of the Year. Through their efforts, the clinic has been able to provide specialty dental care to patients who would otherwise be unable to afford it.
John C. Berry, executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Roanoke office of Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield, is the 1995 Helen Van Rensselaer Philanthropy Award winner. He created partnerships between Virginia free clinics and Trigon, increasing access to health care for the uninsured.
ELIZABETH DAWSON LEE of Roanoke, recently received Longwood College's Alumni Achievement Award. Lee is the principal of Patrick Henry High School and a 1962 graduate of Longwood College.
CHARLES CONSAGRA of Roanoke, was recently inducted into the Gold Club at Keystone College in LaPlume, Pa. Alumni are admitted into the Gold Club 50 years after their graduation from the college.
FLORENCE R. DIECKMANN won the Civitan Club of Roanoke's 1995 Good Samaritan Award for her work with the Salvation Army, the Rescue Mission of Roanoke, Youth Haven II and LOA Area Agency on Aging. She received a plaque, a watch and a $500 donation in her name to a charity of her choice.
THE PIANO STUDENTS OF CAROLYN PHILPOTT recently held their spring recital. VIRGINIA WATERCOLOR SOCIETY recently held its 16th Jurored Exhibition. Roanoke-area artists who received awards are Patricia T. Carr of Roanoke, a combined award sponsored by Mish Mish, Elizabeth River Artists, Bacon Enterprises and Modern Postcard; Vera Dickerson of Troutville, Pat Bohon Award; and Judy Bates of Salem, John Will Creasy Art Society Award.
ROANOKE VALLEY MENDED HEARTS has elected its officers for the 1995-96 term. Those elected to serve are Winston Haynes, president; Jim McCulloch, vice president; Debbie Goodman, secretary; and Virginia Brown, treasurer.
E. CABELL BRAND of Salem, has been appointed to a two-year term on the board of directors of the Action Alliance for Virginia's Children and Youth, a new statewide child advocacy organization.
MARJORIE BERKLEY of Roanoke was named to Hollins College's Athletic Hall of Fame. In her 28 years at the school, she served as a professor of athletics and a coach of field hockey, tennis and soccer teams.
ROANOKE CITY OFFICE ON YOUTH recently presented a "Talent of Living Color" talent show at the Roanoke Civic Center Exhibition Hall. The winners are:
Musical group - Taylor Willis, Richard Gandee, Trent Johnson and Patrick O'Niell, first runner up; Sonya Via, winner.
Dance group - Cathy Hall, Joana Lacayo and Deidre Watson, second runner up; Ashlee Howard, Lakeita Henderson and Takelia Finney, first runner up; Kemeelah Law, Erica Cooper, Erika Young, Erinn Cooper and Tracey Ollie, winner.
Singing - Keith Gray and Shannon Gray, second runner up; Chris Duncan, first runner up; Jamelle Jones, winner.

ROANOKE CHAPTER OF THE BLUEFIELD COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION recently elected new officers. Those elected to serve are Shirley Chapman Meador, president; Linda Martin McCallum, vice president; and Cindy Gochenour, secretary.
BRYAN W. HORN, a lawyer with Florance, Gordon and Brown, P.C., has been appointed to the Roanoke College Science and Mathematics Advisory Committee. The committee comprises Roanoke College alumni and friends who advise the chairmen of the science and mathematics departments on issues facing the fields of science, mathematics and medicine.
