BONNIE KATHERINE HORD of Roanoke was named to the dean's list at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

DAVID and GAYE BLEVINS of Roanoke received the Distinguished Alumni awards from Ferrum College. David Blevins, a 1969 Ferrum graduate, is principal of Hidden Valley Junior High School, and Gaye Blevins, a1970 graduate, teaches at Oak Grove Elementary School. They were recognized for their volunteer work with their church, scouting, recreational teams and several community groups.

ROBIN MUNDY of Daleville and TIM WARD of Roanoke have been named to the spring dean's list at Emory & Henry College.

Mundy is the daughter of Sue and Jack Mundy.

Ward is the son of Roger Ward of Roanoke and Sandra Connolly of Cloverdale.

JENNIFER LEIGH REYNOLDS, daughter of Vincent and Robin Reynolds of Vinton, was named to the spring dean's list at Meredith College.

AIR FORCE LT. GINA HILGER graduated with a master's degree in public management in international security and economic policy from the University of Maryland Graduate School of Public Affairs. Hilger was awarded a certificate of recognition for excellence in scholarship honoring the student with the highest grade-point average.

She is the daughter of Mary and Jerry Hilger of Blue Ridge and graduated from Lord Botetourt High in 1989.

CHAD ADRIAN CARTER, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Carter of Roanoke, was named to the spring dean's list at Pensacola Christian College.

STEPHANIE RHODENIZER, daughter of John and Mildred Rhodenizer of Roanoke, has graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene College with a bachelor of arts in director of Christian education degree.

BETH LYNN DICKERSON of Roanoke graduated from Samford University with an associate of science in nursing degree.

ROBERT W. HERCHENRIDER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Herchenrider of Roanoke, has been awarded the Rensselaer Medal by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. The medal is awarded to high school juniors who are top students in science and mathematics.

Herchenrider is a junior at Cave Spring High School and the Roanoke Valley Governor's School for Science and Technology.

LOUSIE TEMPLE FORSYTH, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Logan Forsyth of Roanoke, and GARLAND SYDNOR LYNN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Lynn, were recently elected to the highest student leadership orgnization at Episcopal High School in Alexandria. The two juniors will serve as student monitors for the 1995-96 school year.

Monitors supervise student dormitories and act as informal peer counselors to younger students.

LESLIE STOCKTON, daughter of Jean Stockton of Roanoke and Paul Stockton of Houston, Texas, recently received George Mason University's Student Community Service of the Year Award for her devotion to the university community.

She was involved in many organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta, a public service sorority, and the Golden Key Honor Society. She was also a Mason Scholar, and served as vice president of the Black Student alliance. Stockton recently graduated from George Mason, and is a 1991 graduate of Northside High School.

VALISSA LEE DUERK, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Duerk of Roanoke, has been named to the 1995 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She is a student at the University of North Dakota.

TAMMIE LEE, daughter of Jeffrey and Phyllis Lee of Roanoke, recently graduated from Piedmont Virginia Community College in Charlottesville. She received an associate in applied science degree in general management. Lee is a 1991 graduate of Franklin County High School.

MARK LEWIS SIMPSON of Roanoke was recently named to the dean's list at Texas A & M University in Kingsville, Texas.

TIFFANY P. HOBACK of Roanoke recently graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. She received a bachelor of science degree.

BRIAN KEITH MORGAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Morgan, recently graduated from Clemson Unviersity. He received a bachelor of science degree in marketing. Morgan served as president of Sigma Phi Epsilon and was a member of the Order of Omega National Honor Society. He also received the Zollinger Outstanding Senior Award.

MELINDA D. PERNA and SAMUEL J. PERNA III, daughter and son of Carolyn Dodd of Roanoke and Dr. Samuel Perna Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala., recently graduated from the University of Alabama.

Melinda graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. Samuel received a master of arts degree in rehabilitative counseling.

HEATHER AMMERMAN, daughter of Gifford and Eleanor Ammerman of Roanoke, graduated magna cum laude from Emory & Henry College.

RAYMOND W. CANFIELD of Roanoke recently received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Lenoir College in Hickory, N.C.

BRIAN BOLINSKY, son of Edward and Becky Bolinsky of Roanoke, has been awarded an academic scholarship at Carson-Newman College.

Bolinsky attends Cave Spring High School.

ALLISON COOKE, daughter of James and Marsha Cooke of Salem, has been named to the dean's list of Freed-Hardeman University for the spring semester.

Cooke is a freshman history major.

LACEY ELIZABETH EIBERT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carlton D. Eibert of Roanoke, received a bachelor of science degree from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky.

THE ART MUSEUM OF WESTERN VIRGINIA and THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF THE ROANOKE VALLEY INC. have announced winners of their first Box City Contest held at ArtVenture, the children's center of the art museum. All fifth-grade classes of Roanoke, Roanoke County and Salem schools were invited to submit a model of a city made from cardboard materials.

The winners are: first place, Deborah Harris's fifth grade at Mason's Cove Elementary; second place, Susan Julian's fifth grade at Highland Park Magnet; and third place, Jane Hale's fifth grade of Crystal Spring Elementary schools.

ROANOKE COLLEGE has selected several Roanoke Valley students to participate in its summer research program. They are: Marcelle Crickenberger, who will study bodies and souls in transition; Michael Fadorick, who will compare theories of reasoned action; John Smith, who will research canonization in the 20th century; and Karen St. Clair, who will examine ways of detecting attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

CLAIRE FLARSHEIM, daughter of Phillip Flarsheim of Roanoke, recently graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a master of science degree.

JASON PENDLETON, son of Larry and Judith Pendleton of Roanoke, recently received the Hubble, Kops and Severt Award from Emory & Henry College. The award is based on character, academics and leadership.

VALERIE COFFEY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Giles Coffey of Roanoke, recently received the Esther M. Doyle Theatre Award at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa. The award is given annually to a student who has made the most significant contribution to the college's theater as an actor or production crew member.

Coffey is a junior English major.

MARK PIERCE, son of David and Dreama Pierce of Salem, recently received a bachelor of science degee in accounting with a minor in computer science from Milligan College in Tennessee.
