THURMAN, Minor Eldridge, (``Doc""), 75, of Casa Grande, Ariz., formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Tuesday, June 27, 1995. He was founding president of the local chapter of AARP. He taught ``55 Alive Mature Driving"" for 8 years. Mr. Thurman was a song leader at St. Anthony's Catholic Church for 12 years. He was a star player of his high school football team at Jefferson High School in Roanoke, Va. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Eldridge, Casa Grande, Ariz.; two sons, Patrick A. Thurman, Cave Creek, Ariz., Phillip F. Thurman, Franklin, Ind.; one sister, Elinor Wicks, Hartwell, Ga.; two brothers, William Everett Thurman Jr., Burlington, N.C., Edgar A. Thurman, Salem, Va.; daughter-in-law, Sue Thurman, Cave Creek, Ariz.; four grandsons, (twins) Mathew and Thomas Thurman, Cave Creek, Ariz., Anthony Thurman, Franklin, Ind., Aaron Thurman, Franklin, Ind. Mass services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, 1995, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Casa Grande, Ariz. Arrangements by Simes Mortuaries, Casa Grande, Ariz.

ADAMS, Paul G., Lt. Col., U.S. Army, Retired, 67, died Saturday, June 24, 1995, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News. A native of Penhook, Va., and former member of Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren, he had been a resident of Hampton, Va. for 16 years. Colonel Adams retired from the U.S. Army in 1971 after 20 years of service and was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. His decorations and award include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Air Medal, the Commendation Medal, the Korean Presidential Citation, the Meritorious Unit Citation with cluster and the Senior Pararchutist Badge. Graduating high school at Ferrum Jr. College he went on to receive a BS degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, a MA degree from Western Maryland College as well as being a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. He was a teacher and headmaster of the Eastern Shore Academy, Hallwood, Va. for seven years. Survivors include a son, Frantz M. Adams, a daughter, Aurea Leigh Adams and a granddaughter, Frantzesca M. Adams, all of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico; four sisters, Evelyn A. Arsenault, Knoxville, Tenn., Adeen A. Selden, Penhook, Va., Polly A. Kahle, Christiansburg, Va., and Jody Adams, Hampton, Va.; a brother, Sneed T. Adams, Bedford, Va. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 1995. Interment with full military honors will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 342 S. ADKINS, Ernie Steve, 29, of Penhook, died Thursday morning, June 29, 1995, as the result of an automobile accident. His brother Steven Adkins also died in the accident. Surviving are two children, Joshua and Jarrett Adkins, Glade Hill; mother and stepfather, Brenda and Gary Eggleston, Ridgeway; father and stepmother, Steve and Alice Adkins, Callands; one brother, Paul Adkins, Callands; two sisters, Michelle Adkins, Callands, Sabrina Moore, Chatham; grandmother, Gladys Lawrence, Penhook; grandfather, Jincy Adkins, Callands; several aunts and uncles; and three nephews. AYERS, Oliver Edgar, (``Ed""), 71, of Moneta, died Thursday, June 29, 1995, at his home. He was a native of Botetour t County, owned and operated Ayers TV Service in Roanoke and after retiring moved to Smith Mountain Lake. Mr. Ayers was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Parker Ayers, Moneta; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Chuck Millard, Hillsborough, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Grover and Linda Ayers, Goodview; one granddaughter, Belinda Ayers; two grandsons, Chip and Kevin Millard; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie Ruth Wertz, Roanoke, Myrtle and William Dooley, Fincastle, Betty and Sonny Crowder, Fincastle; brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Elizabeth Ayers, Fincastle; a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 1995, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Carl V. Woodie and Pastor Rick Poland officiating. Burial will follow in the Godwin Cemetery in Fincastle. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. BALLOU, Mary Goode, 81, of Roanoke, died Thursday, June 29, 1995. She was a retired State of Virginia employee. Surviving are two brothers, Thomas B. Ballou, Gulf Breeze, Fla., Ernest W. Ballou, Roanoke; six nieces; six nephews; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside services will be conducted at Evergreen Burial Park, 3 p.m., Friday, by the Rev. James D. Smith. FRAZIER, Janie Cunningham, of Narrows, has gone home. She departed this life, Wednesday, June 28, 1995, eleven years and one day after her beloved husband, William M. ""Bill"" Frazier. She was born Jane Elizabeth Cunningham; daughter of, James W. and Minnie Cunningham. Jamie lived all of her adult life in the community of Narrows, Va. and she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend. She was a wonderful cook and often said that her nine room house could not hold all the food she had cooked in her lifetime. She always looked forward to this time of year when her children came home to visit. You could always find Janie in the evening after the chores were done, rocking on the back porch with a fan and a flyswatter handy. She was an avid gardner, seamstress and musician. She taught her children to look for the good in everyone, to find humor in life and to extend a helping hand to others. Janie graciously greeted all visitors with ""Ya'll Come On In."" We know Heaven will greet her the same way. She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Rathma and E.K. ""Eddie"" Johnson, of Blue Ridge, Nedra and Grover Huffman, New Castle, Janice and E. Dean Cockerman, Mims, Fla., Peggy and W.W. ""Bill"" Price, Grantham, Penn.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Russell C. and Mary Frazier, of Narrows, William M. Jr., and Nancy Frazier, of Stewartsville, James W. and Dorothy Frazier, Iowa Park, Texas, Lee Ray and Barbara Frazier, New Castle; 33 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 1995, in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service with Rev. Billy Frazier officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. GRAHAM, J. Grant, 76, of Radford, died Thursday, June 29, 1995 in a Radford Hospital. He was a retired employee of Radio Station W. R. A. D., a past President and 50 year member of the Radford Host Lions Club, a member and Deacon Emeritus of the First Baptist Church and an active volunteer worker in a various civic activities. Surviving are his wife, Esther Bobbitt Graham, Radford; two sons and daughters-in-law, W. Bobbitt and JoAnne Graham, King, N.C., Joseph Grant and Gayle Graham, Snellville, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Kenneth Harrell, Pulaski; one sister, Eloise Turner, Radford; a sister-in-law, Odette Graham, Radford; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren also survive. HARRIS, Mary Ruth Broughman, 84, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Botetourt County, died Tuesday, June 27, 1995. She is survived by one brother, Raymond M. JEFFERIES, William Douglas Jr., 41, of Natural Bridge, died accidentally Monday, June 26, 1995, while vacationing at Boca Grande Beach, Boca Grande, Fla. William was born to William and Kathryn (Baker) Jefferies on February 14, 1954 in Frederick, Md. He was a 1977 graduate of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, and was President of Applied Industrial Control. He was a 20 year member of the Sierra Club, a member of the N.A.S.E. and a member of the Instrument Society of America. He is survived by his wife, Carole S. Jefferies; one son, Andrew Clayton Baker Jefferies; two daughters, Emma Leigh and Kerry Elizabeth Jefferies, all of Natural Bridge; his parents, William Douglas and Kathryn Jefferies of Marco Island, Fla; one brother, Richard lynn and Jean Jefferies of Studio City, Calif. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, Ju ly 2, 1995, at High Bridge Presbyterian Church, Natural Bridge. SANDERSON, James C. (``J.C.""), 94, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, June 29, 1995, in a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie O. Sanderson. Mr. Sanderson was a former employee of the B.F. Parrott Construction Co. Surviving is one sister, Nell Eubank, Stockwood, Va.; a number of nieces and nephews.
