PULASKI COUNTY GETS MORE RAIN

Pulaski County got hit with 2 to 3 inches of rain within a few hours Thursday night, bringing flooding that covered several roads until after midnight.

Parts of the southbound lane of U.S. 11 between Pulaski and Dublin, near the Cougar Express store, and Black Hollow Road near the New River Valley Fairgrounds were impassable for a time.

County Emergency Services Coordinator Stan Crigger said the water receded after midnight. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department and State Police reported no remaining problems Friday morning.

But for a while Thursday night, Crigger said, some people were cut off from their homes. The situation cleared up before arrangements for emergency shelter became necessary.

Crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation spent Friday cleaning debris that had been washed onto roads Thursday night, as well as gravel from people's driveways.

Rain gauges showed 2.62 inches of water in the Back Creek area, but Crigger said it probably amounted to more than that in the area of U.S. 11 that had been blocked.

A gauge at New River Valley Airport near Dublin showed only 1.24 inches of rain falling Thursday night.

A number of fences were washed away by the heavy rain and flooding.
