ARNOLD, Edsel Cyril, 50, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, June 30, 1995. Funeral 10 a.m. Monday, Lotz Vinton Chapel.

BRAY, Alva Louise, 56, of Roanoke, died Friday, June 30, 1995. Arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.

BREWER, Ruby Odellie, 75, of Staffordsville, died Thursday evening, June 29, 1995, in Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Brewer was born on December 26, 1919, in Ash County, N.C. and was a daughter of the late Charlie and Maude Miller Wiles. Mrs. Brewer was a member of the AARP, the Golden Olympics, the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. and the Senior Center Ceramic Club. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy and Charles Stone, Weaver, Ala., Becky and Harvey Martin, Pearisburg, Billie Moran Kent, Millsboro, Del.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 2, 1995 at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Monroe officiating. Burial will follow in the Orchard Cemetery in Ballard, W.Va. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Home.

FRYE, Harry Adam, 59, of Orange City, Fla., formerly of Wythe County, died Wednesday, June 28, 1995, in Florida. Funeral 2 p.m., Mount Zion United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Barnett Funeral Home, Wytheville.

FUDGE, Thelma Mae Pauley, 70, of Roanoke, stepped out to meet the Lord at 7:55 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph A. Fudge, her parents Holten and Virginia Pauley, and six brothers and sisters. Mrs. Fudge was the manger and a decorator at The Fabric Center and The Cotton Gin. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy Fudge, Roanoke; a daughter, Sharon McAllister, Randleman, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Tashia Leigh Fudge, April Dawn Fudge, Michael McAllister, Tonya Whiting, Debbie Forbes, David Perkins, and Robert Perkins; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Loki Whiting, Jonathan Forbes, Ashley Forbes; four brothers, J ames W. Pauley, Charles Pauley, Roy J. Pauley, all of Hopewell, Johnny Pauley, Wytheville; two sisters, June Pauley Perkins, Asheboro, N.C., Libby McAllister, Chilhowie; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edith and Sam Young, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday from Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Charles C. Briscoe officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel where the family will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

HIGGINS, Goldie Lee, 79, of Manassas Park,died Thursday, June 29, 1995 in Prince William Hospital. Born in Rockbridge County on January 17, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Smith Horn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman E. Higgins. She was a member of the Lauderdale ARP Church. Survivors include two daughters, Effie Robinson, Alexandria, and Mildred Lee VanNess, Boyce; three sons, Fred E. Higgins, Buena Vista, Richard T. Higgins, Bentonville and Ralph D. Higgins, Front Royal; a sister, Edna Shover, Lexington; two brothers, Richard Horn, Lexington and Henry Horn, Covington; thirty grandchildren and forty-two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Sunday, July 2, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. at Lomax Funeral Chapel with Rev. Daniel Duff Sr. officiating. Interment will be in New Monmouth Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 1 at Lomax Funeral Home.

HOGAN, Lawrence Edward, 78, of Bedford, and formerly of Eagle Rock, passed away Thursday, June 29, 1995. He was born March 10, 1917 in Botetourt County, a son of the late Babe Hogan and Alice Overstreet Hogan. His wife was the late Sarah Louise Rucker Hogan. He is survived by six sons, John E. Hogan, Ohio, James D. Hogan, Eagle Rock, Jerry L. Hogan, Jack R. Hogan, Joe W. Hogan, Bobby L. Hogan, all of Roanoke; two daughters, Melody H. Jennings, Forest, Cathy Sue Marsh, Madison Heights; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, July 2, 1995 at 2 p.m. from the Holy Land USA Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Saturday and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.

LUCAS, Lizzie Halsey, 69, of Salem, died Thursday, June 29, 1995. She was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Ann Crockett and is survived by her husband, Paul Lucas of Richfield Nursing Home; a son, Ethan Eugene Dogan of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Lee Crockett and Jessica Dogan; a sister, Rose Zella Bryan of Roanoke; five brothers, Artie Halsey and Robert Halsey, both of Roanoke, Henry Halsey of Catawba, Bert Halsey of Villamont, Jay Halsey of N. Wilksboro, N.C. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, July 3, 1995, at Piney Creek Methodist Church Cemetery, Piney Creek, N.C. with the Rev. Loraine Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends at Lotz Roanoke Chapel 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

MASSEY, Larry Allen, 42, of Chatham, Va., died Thursday, June 29, 1995. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 1995 at the Lumpkin Family Cemetery, Penhook, Va. MILLS, Margaret Cregger, (``Polly""), 72, of Wytheville, died Friday, June 30, 1995, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was a retired Practical Nurse from the Family Physicians of Wytheville. She is survived by her husband, Harold K. Mills, Wytheville; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Vance Hash, Rural Retreat; sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Mills, Alden, Penn., Harold M. and Shelby Mills, Sumter, S.C.; sisters, Mary Tolley, Lolly Sexton, Betty Monahan all of Wytheville; brothers, Paul Cregger, Wytheville, Jim Cregger, Welch, W.Va., Kelly Cregger, Milan, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Mt. Ephraim United Methodist Church Cemetery. SMITH, James Edward Sr., (``Jingle Bell""), 62, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 1995. Funeral services will be Saturday, 12 noon, Morning Star Baptist Church with Rev. SPRINKLE, Ruby Haymaker, 91, of Fincastle, died Thursday, June 29, 1995. She was an active life long member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Helen Sprinkle of Lynchburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Bill Corvin of Elliston, Jean and Buck Drewry of Lynchburg; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 3, 1995, 11 a.m. at the Rader Troutville Chapel with the Rev. Robert Sadler officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. UNDERWOOD, Emmett Wilson, 82, of Blacksburg, died Friday, June 30, 1995 at his home. Born in Montgomery County on March 26, 1913. He was the son of the late Peter Monroe and Rosey Lea Howard Underwood. Mr. Underwood was a Charter Member, Elder and Trustee of the Northside Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie L. O'Neil Underwood. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Nedra Underwood, Helen U. and Steven Whitaker, and Phyllis U. and Floyd Long all of Blacksburg; two grandsons, Steven (Scooter) Whitaker and wife, Kelli Richmond, James (Jamie) Whitaker and wife, Ana; and a great-granddaughter, Alicia Jameson Whitaker, all of Blacksburg; one sister-in-law, Bessie Steele and husband, Fred, Christiansburg; one brother-in-law, Joe Quesenberry, Christiansburg; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sund ay, July 2, 1995, at 1:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hugh Springer officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

YOPP, Marie Yates, 78, of Shawsville went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 29, 1995 at Lewis-Gale Hospital, Salem, after a long illness. Born November 14, 1916 at Alleghany Springs, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Lee and Berta Virginia Yates. She was the widow of Charlie Moses Yopp Sr. and was also preceded in death by a brother, Carl Watson Yates. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie M. Jr. and Jeanie Yopp, Jimmie O. and Myrtle Yopp; four grandchildren, Wesley, Cindy, Kristin and Jessica Yopp, all of Shawsville. Also surviving are five sisters, Edna Womack, Shawsville, Tena Dickerson, Alleghany Springs, Hazel Barnett, Troutville, Ruby Lemon, Alleghany Springs, Ne llie Epperly, Pilot; one brother, Frank Yates, Shawsville; and a very special friend, Anna Dickerson,. Alleghany Springs. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at the graveside in Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery conducted by Pastor Eddie Booth. The funeral procession will leave Richardson-Horne Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Sunday. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Saturday evening at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg.
