DRIVER MAKES IMPACT ON RADFORD MUNICIPAL BUILDING

They say you can't fight city hall, but that didn't stop someone from taking on Radford's Municipal Building with a motor vehicle late Sunday, destroying a new set of doors workers had just installed.

Police don't have a motive in the incident, which happened around 11 p.m. Sunday, but they do have a witness.

"Somebody saw it, because it was called in," said Deputy Chief Jonny Butler.

Police are keeping the witness's identity a secret for fear of retaliation, he said.

According to Butler, police also have a possible description of the vehicle and a possible license plate number.

Assistant City Manager Bob Lloyd estimated the damage at $2,500.

City Finance Director Jess Cantline, whose office is nearby, said the crash left bits of glass everywhere and a big hole at the entryway off the building's main parking lot.

"It buckled the doors right bad," he said. "It must've hit it pretty hard. I don't think it was just an accident."

Butler asks anyone with information to call the city's Crime Line, 731-3627.
