GM, NISSAN, MAZDA REPORT U.S. SALES OFF

A handful of automakers reported declines in U.S. sales for June on Monday, with General Motors Corp. posting a performance 4 percent behind its June 1994 level.

Nissan and Mazda, the other large companies reporting Monday, also had declines from a year ago, when the auto industry was tailing off a sales boom that had lasted most of the year's first half.

Reports expected Wednesday from Chrysler, Ford, Toyota and other companies may lift the industry's overall performance for the month.

GM's car sales were off 5.5 percent from a year ago, while truck sales were down 1.7 percent. Nissan sales were down 9.7 percent in June. Mazda was off 16.5 percent.
