ARCHITECTS' DREAMS . . .
Seven projects designed by Roanoke area architects have been cited for
excellence by the Blue Ridge chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
The chapter, which includes about 300 architects and associates in a region
between Bristol and Lynchburg, gave honor awards to Dennis Kilper of
Blacksburg for design of a private residence and to Hayes, Seay Mattern &
Mattern Inc. of Roanoke for design of a building for the Air Force Loistics
Command's aeronatutical systems hall at Wright Patterson Air Force base.
Merit awards went to Motley & Associates of Roanoke for design of a middle
school for the Williamsburg-James City County public schools 3. and to Hayes,
Seay, Mattern & Mattern for design of Cox Cable Roanoke's headquarters in
Roanoke County. Honorable mentions went to Motley & Associates for a public
library in High Point, N.C.; Rife & Wood Architects in Roanoke for renovation
of a private residence; and Sherertz, Franklin, Crawford, Shaffner of Roanoke
for renovation and addition to Virginia Heights Elementary School, Roanoke.
