MICHELE LOUISE KIELTY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kielty of Roanoke, has been awarded a full scholarship to earn a master's degree in counseling at Wake Forest University.

Kielty is a 1991 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

THE CAVE SPRING HIGH SCHOOL PTSA recently honored students who volunteered more 3,000 hours to medical facilities in the Roanoke Valley. KAREN LOUISE DOOLAN of Roanoke recently received a doctor of pharmacy degree from Campbell University in North Carolina.

ROBERT T. PRINCE, son of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Prince Jr. of Blue Ridge, recently was inducted into Virginia Military Institute's chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, an honor society that recognizes excellence of scholarship and integrity of character.

NATHAN JOHN BIRCKHEAD and WILLIAM MASSELLO IV have received the "Good Citizen" award from the Colonel William Preston Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Birckhead, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Birckhead, is a 1995 Northside High School graduate, and Masselllo, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Massello III, is a 1995 Roanoke Catholic School graduate.

FRANK YOUNG of Roanoke and KENT FLEMING of New Castle were named to the dean's list at Clinch Valley College for its 1995 spring semester.

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA has named Traci D. Osborne, Elizabeth L. Wedemeyer and Jennifer C. Williams, all of Roanoke, to the dean's list for the spring semester.

ELIZABETH CAMILLE MONTGOMERY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.G. Montgomery of Roanoke, has received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga.

EDWIN MOIR WILSON JR., son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin M. Wilson of Roanoke, recently graduated from Woodberry Forest School. Wilson will attend Washington and Lee University in the fall.

CAMERON DAWN HYDEN of Roanoke recently graduated from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.

ROANOKE SCHOOLS have announced the names of students who placed in the National Junior High Chess Championships in Dearborn, Mich.

The winners are: individual trophy, Jonathan Turner, Lucy Addison Aerospace Magnet Middle School, who placed 16th in the JV section; team trophy, James Madison Middle School, 16th in the JV section.

The members of the James Madison team are: Akil Foderingham, Kamu Foderingham, Allison Holt, Bobby Holt, Mary Holt, Jessie Hsing, Justin Marlles, Andi Muse, Nathan Taylor and Floyd Welton.

ANGELA HOPE JASPER, daughter of Norman Jasper of Vinton and Virginia Draper of Salem, has received a $1,000 scholarship from the 3rd Marine Division Association's Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Jasper attends James Madison University and graduated from Roanoke Valley Christian School.

MARY SPRUILL, daughter of Bonny Spruill of Roanoke, became the first student to address the graduating class at George Mason University at its commencement May 20. Spruill is a graduate of Northside High School.

PAMELA SUE AMMERMANN, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gifford Ammermann, recently graduated from American University School of Law in Washington, D.C. She graduated summa cum laude and received a juris doctor degree. She is a graduate of Northside High School.

KIMBERLY YARNAU MEARS, daughter of Mary Yarnau of Vinton and William M. Yarnau of Charlotte, N.C., recently graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology from Salisbury State University in Salisbury, Md.

She is a 1991 graduate of William Byrd High School.

CLAUDIA JOHNSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodell C. Johnson of Roanoke, made the dean's list with distinction at the University of Arizona for the spring semester.

She is a graduate of North Cross School and is majoring in psychology.

MARJORIE BERKLEY of Roanoke has been named to the Hollins College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Berkley, who came to Hollins in 1961, served as coach and professor of athletics for 28 years. Not only did she coach field hockey, tennis and soccer, she also led the 1963 and 1973 field hockey team through undefeated seasons.

She was also the first associate commissioner of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

MICHELLE FOWLER, daughter of Marshall and Barbara Fowler of Roanoke, made the dean's list for spring semester at Virginia Commonwealth University.

She is a graduate of Cave Spring high School.

AMANDA GAIL FRAZIER of Roanoke has been named to the dean's list at Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, N.C.

Frazier is a junior majoring in English.

LESLIE HALE STOCKTON, daughter of Paul and Jean Stockton of Roanoke, has earned a bachelor's degree from George Mason University.

Stockton, a Mason Scholar, earned a degree in English with a concentration in literature.

ROBERT ALLEN STEWART JR., son of Mike and Pam Jamison of Fincastle, has been named to the dean's list at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C.

CAVE SPRING HIGH SCHOOL has announced the names of students who have been chosen to attend the Summer Governor's School programs.

Chris Jimeson and Stephen Kunkle are attending the school for humanities.

Catherine Niedzwiecki, Lisa LaPlant and Kate Nettles are attending school for visual and performing arts.

Kevin Ventura will attend the Summer Language Academy for Spanish.

Cave Spring also announced the names of students who have been selected to attend Girls and Boys State. April Faulkner and Nancy Dixon were selected to attend Girl's State at Longwood College, and Stephen Kunkle and James Fusco were selected to attend Boy's State at Liberty University.

KERRI KATHLEEN BLACKWELL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Blackwell of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Greensboro College in North Carolina. She is a biology major.

EVE-LYN ANNIKA COBEY, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Elwood Cobey of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

NEAL S. JAMISON, formerly of Roanoke, was awarded a master's degree in information systems from the Hawaii Pacific University. He is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

D.K. McCLURE, son of Mac and Carol McClure, recently graduated magna cum laude from Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, S.C. He received an associate degree in applied science.

RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE awarded degrees to Michael Duffy, Kara Winslow Savelyev, John James Benjamin Pattisall, Travis Ryan Overstreet, Lisa Michelle Beightol, Paul Clayman Bowles, Brooke Baylor Mallory III, Christopher Michael Hancock, Edward Keenan Haynes and Tuyet Thi Anh Tran, all of the Roanoke Valley.

VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE has awarded degrees to cadets from the Roanoke Valley. They are: Brandon R. Cornett, son of James P. Cornett and Joyce Ellis, a graduate of Cave Spring High; Joseph W. Doyle, son of Barbara W. Doyle, a graduate of Northside High School; David O. Phelps II, son of Mr. and Mrs. David O. Phelps Sr.; and Philip Scott Townsend, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip A. Townsend, a graduate of Northside High School.

SHAYLA HENRY, daughter of Samuel and Patricia Henry of Roanoke, recently received the Ora Sharp Scholarship from the Department of Early and Middle Education at James Madison University for outstanding scholastic ability and potential.

ROBERT TERRY PRINCE, son of William S. Prince Jr. and Vickie Prince of Blue Ridge, received the Class of 1941 Award from Virginia Military Institute.

The award is presented to the first-standing junior in civil engineering studies.

BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE has awarded degrees to several Roanoke-area students. They are: Kelli Ann Dircks, daughter of Susan and William E. Honeycutt of Roanoke; Dale LeRoy Foster Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Foster of Salem; Marcia Rae Mundy, daughter of Charles and Nancy Mundy of Buchanan; Christie Leigh Osborne, daughter of Gary and Carol Osborne of Daleville; and Cybele Wu, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wu of Roanoke.

DAVID LEONARD WAYNE BALLARD, son of Raymond L. Ballard and Jenny G. Richards of Roanoke, graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida.

MARK CHRISTIAN MITCHELL, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Mitchell Jr. and a student at Ferrum College, has been included in the 1995 edition of ``Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.''

EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY has named the following Roanoke Valley students to its dean's list: Stacy Rae Campbell, daughter of Barbara E. Campbell and Calvin R. Campbell of Buchanan; Heather Lee O'Brien, daughter of Rita Lee O'Brien and Jerry D. O'Brien of Roanoke; Amy Kathleen Dawkins, daughter of Mary Dawkins and William Dawkins of Roanoke; and Charlotte E. McDonald, daughter of Charlotte S. McDonald and Thomas R. McDonald of Roanoke.

AMY MARIE WOODS and ANNE HEE CHO recently graduated from Sweet Briar College. Woods, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Woods of Salem, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in international affairs and French. Cho, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Kyoung Syoung Cho of Roanoke, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in economics and a certificate in management.

SUSAN JOHNSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson Jr. of Roanoke, was recently awarded the President's Prize in Philosophy at Salem College. She graduated magna cum laude.

ROUND HILL PRIMARY SCHOOL recently placed first in Virginia and third in the nation in the "Set a Good Example" contest. The contest, sponsored by the Concerned Businessmen's Association of America, promotes positive behavior in children and emphasizes responsibility for one's self and one's environment. The school received a state commendation from Sen. Brandon Bell.
