Older Americans collecting fans

The League of Older Americans is seeking donations of fans and small window air conditioners in good condition, new or used. Donations are tax deductible. Fans and air conditioners may be dropped off at 706 Campbell Ave., Roanoke. For more information call 345-0451.

SPCA lowers adoption fee for cats and kittens

The Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has lowered its normal feline adoption fee of $50 to $35 through the summer. A seasonal surplus of cats and kittens has prompted the animal shelter to offer a discount so that more homeless cats and kittens may be adopted.

Roanoke County allows six cats per household. All but two must be altered. Roanoke does not require a license and allows four unaltered cats or six altered cats per household.

MDA seeks telethon entertainers

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is seeking volunteer entertainers such as singers, magicians, clowns and dancers and participants for the "Jerry Lewis Labor Day Stars Across America Telethon" Sept. 4.

The telethon will be broadcast on Virginia's 13 WSET Sept. 3, 9 p.m. through Sept. 4, 6:30 p.m.

Art museum offers camps, workshops

The Art Museum of Western Virginia is offering a series of summer camps, classes and workshops for children of all ages.

"Let's Paint!," led by Jennifer Shamy, July 17-20, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., ages 10-13.

"Young at Art," led by Debbie Harris, Aug. 7-11, 10 a.m.-11:30 p.m., ages: 2-4.

"Mixed Media Drawing & Painting," led by Debbie Harris, Aug. 21-25, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., age 9-12.

New day clinic to help adolescents

Total Life Counseling, Inc. has opened an Adolescent Day Treatment Clinic. The new program will operate in conjunction with the existing Adult Day Treatment Clinic.

The operating hours for the new treatment center will be noon-6 p.m.
