RADFORD HOUSE DECLARED LOSS; FIRE RULED ACCIDENTAL

A fire partially gutted a Stockton Street house Wednesday night.

Homeowner Barbara Bishop was not home when the fire broke out.

Firefighters were called to the house at about 10 p.m. when the fire was spotted by someone farther up the street, Fire Marshal Cabby Whitt said.

When fire crews arrived, large bright flames were visible inside the house and leaping through the exterior.

The fire was quickly brought under control.

Whitt said he found some bad wiring and has ruled the fire accidental.

The fire started on the second floor in one of the back rooms, Whitt said.

The house, near the Norfolk Southern railroad yard, will have to be torn down.

"She lost about everything she had," Whitt said.

A dog was inside the house when the fire broke out, but Whitt said it hasn't been found.
