ALDERMAN, Faye Raines, 72, of Narrows, died Thursday, July 6, 1995, in a Pearisburg hospital. She was born in Lindside, W.Va., on May 5, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Delia Raines. She is survived by her husband, Melvin S. Alderman, Narrows; a son, Sam Alderman, Salem; a brother, Cecil Raines, Lindside, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 1995, at the First Christian Church, Narrows, with Rev. Jack Musick officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riffe's Funeral Service, 600 E. Main St., Narrows. ALLMAN, Dotsie Shoemaker, 84, of Glade Hill, died Wednesday, July 5, 1995, at her residence. She was born April 16, 1911 in Franklin County, and was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Wilbert Allman. Since 1928, Mrs. Allman had been a member of Glade Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Lee and Rachel Allman, Glade Hill; three grandchildren and spouses, Henry L. and Lynn B. Allman, Glade Hill, Donna A. and Billy Thurman, Rocky Mount, Twyla A. and Donnie D. Hambrick, Glade Hill; seven great-grandchildren, Bethany Allman, Diana Thurman, Sarah Ann Thurman, Elizabeth Thurman , Victoria Thurman, Christopher Hambrick, Brandon Hambrick; two sisters, Lessie S. Mason, Rocky Mount, Lilly S. Jenkins, Beckley, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Helen Brown. Funeral services will be conducted from Glade Hill Baptist Church 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 1995, with the Rev. David Long and Dr. Thomas Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Glade Hill Rescue Squad. BEARD, Ethelene Crouch, 76, of Hardy, entered into eternal life, Wednesday, July 5, 1995, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, John Warren Beard, Hardy; children, Benjamin Reed Beard and Helen Beard, Thomasville, N.C., Jimmy Lee and Donna Beard, Newport News, Herman Ray and Janice Beard, Salem, Dale Alan and Kathryn Beard, Troutville, Sheila Faye and Jerry Young, Ferrum; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Minnie McGuire, Hardy; one brother, Charmer Crouch, Rocky Mount; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Beard was born on November 15, 1918, in Hardy, Va., and was the daughter of Benjamin and Victoria Sink Crouch. She and Mr. Beard married on May 20, 1939. She was formerly employed by Franklin County Schoo ls and served at Burnt Chimney Elementary School. She attended Franklin Memorial Baptist Church in Hardy. She was a talented artist and craftswoman and a devoted wife and mother. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Steve Witt officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, at the Lotz Vinton Chapel.

DAVIS, George Robert, 69, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, July 5, 1995, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was a retired salesman for the Diamond Paper Company, Danville, VA, and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pannell Davis; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Jimmy Henderson, Rocky Mount, Thelma and Jack Price, Roanoke; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Marie Davis, Collinsville, Harry and Evelyn Davis, Vinton; five sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Martha and Spencer Albright, Fayetteville, Ark., Reed and Betty Pannell, Alexandria, Clayton and Magalene Pannell, Etowah, Lorris and Judy Pannell, Winston-Salem, N.C., James Halsey, Clinton. Numerous loving friends, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. F uneral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 1995, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. EPPERLY, Emma Alley, 92, of Christiansburg, entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday afternoon, July 6, 1995 at the Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was a lifelong member of the presbyterian Church in Christiansburg, a graduate of Radford College and a former school teacher. Mrs. Epperly was also a seamstress and had retired from the Imperial Reading Plant in Christiansburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dewey Epperly, five br others and three sisters. Surviving are three daughters, Lois Knowles, Christiansburg, Betty Hall, Centerville and Kathy Scarborough, Salem; two sisters, Reba Clower, Pilot, Ruby Thompson, Christiansburg; a brother, Harry Alley, Christiansburg; six grandchildren, Pat Craft and her husband, Keven, New Castle, Ed Knowles and his wife, Carol, Roanoke, Wanda Fuller and her husband, Kit, Bolder Colorado, Caroline Scarborough, Salem, David Hall, Centerville and Myra Jane Knowles, Christiansburg; and seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Epperly's name to Housecall Hospice, 2167 Apperson Dr., Salem, Va. or the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, West Main St., Christiansburg, Va. GODBY, Arthur E., 53, of Route 1, New Castle, died Wednesday, July 5, 1995, in a Roanoke hospital. He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Manuel Wooten; a niece, Debbie Tomlinson, all of Fort Bell, Ind.; a friend, Hank Adams, New Castle. Funeral will be Saturday 11 a.m. at Boitnott Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Huffman Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

HALES, Ora W., 79, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Wythe County, died Tuesday, July 4, 1995. She is survived by a son, Eugene Brookman of Baltimore, Md.; two grandsons, Scott Brookman of Texas, and Kevin Brookman of Arizona; four great-granchildren; five sisters, Virginia Corder of Baltimore, Md., Gertrude Lawson, and Mamie Hall both of Wytheville, Hazel Lawson of Max Meadows, and Helen Cartwright of Pulaski; two brothers, Bert Wright of Wytheville and Glenn Wright of Max Meadows. LESTER, Mabel Annie Stultz, 83, of Lynchburg, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday evening, July 5, 1995 at her residence. She was a member of the Roanoke Primitive Baptist Church, was retired from Lewis-Gale Hospital's Physical Therapy Department, and a former long-time resident of 30th Street N.W. Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Masten H. Lester, and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maryanne and James Taylor, Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Masten and Amber Taylor; three stepgrandchildren, Shane, Allison and Jamie Taylor; a sister, Helen S. White, Marfa, Texas; two brothers, Howard G. Stultz, Roanoke, Herman W. Stultz, Mesa, Ariz. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, with Elder Leonard J. MOORE, Hubert Dewey Sr., 72, of Salem, passed away at his home, Thursday, July 6, 1995, after a lengthy illness. He was employed with Norfolk & Western for 38 years and retired as Yard Master, Park Street. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred Moore Sr. and Myrtle S. Moore; a brother, James Alfred Moore Jr. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Miller Moore; daughter, Brenda Jean Moore; son and daughter-in-law, H. PAYNE, Mary Snyder, 71, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, July 6, 1995 at Friendship Manor Nursing Facility in Roanoke. Born September 11, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Brady Easley Snyder and Lucy Burton Snyder. She was a member of Belspring Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband Edward C. Payne of Blacksburg; one daughter, Sandra McQuerry of Goldsboro, N.C.; three sons, Charles Akers Jr. of Warrenton, Va., Gerald Akers of Belspring and James E. Akers of Riner; one sister, Mabel Thompson of Belspring.; also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Belspring Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Hickman Cemetery in Pulaski Co. RAGLAND, John William, (``Billy""), 52, of Roanoke, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 6, 1995 at home. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin O. Ragland. He is survived by his mother, Mildred L. Ragland, Roanoke; three sisters, Mrs. Doug (Betty) Heptinstall, Roanoke, Mrs. Randy (Joyce) Rakes, Roanoke, Mrs. Ted (Nancy) Clark, Roanoke; four brothers, Benny Ragland, of North Carolina, Eddie Radland, Roanoke, Freddie Ragland, Roanoke and Bobby Ragland, Roanoke; five nieces; eight nephews; and aunts and uncles. REED, Donald, (``Mutt""), 76, of Parrott, died Tuesday, July 4, 1995. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. He was a retired employee of Reeds Auto Parts in Radford. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sydney Reed and Mary Purdy Reed and a sister, Goldie R. (Sherman) Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Louise Howell Reed of Parrott; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth A. (``Butch"") Reed Sr. of Radford, Billy W. and Beverly Reed of Radford, and Jerry A. Reed of Parrott; two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha A. SPANGLER, Ruth Gregory, 67, of Shawsville, went to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon, July 4, 1995. VAUGHAN, Dr. Thomas June, 58, of Richmond, Ky., died Wednesday, July 5, 1995, at Berea Hospital in Berea, Ky. A native of Grayson County, Virginia, he was the son of Virginia June Vaughan and the late Thomas Jefferson Vaughan. Mr. Vaughan was a fellow in the American College of Radiology, a member of the Kentucky Medical Association, American Medical Association, Madison County Medical Society, The Staff of Berea Hospital, former staff member at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and a Virginia Medical Licensee. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Lisa Hogan of Richmond, Ky.; his mother, Jennie June Vaughan of Fries; two children, Letisha Vaughan Mullins of Gatlinburg, Tenn. and Timothy Vaughan of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Ch arlotte Vaughan of Fries. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeff Vaughan. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 8, 1995, at 4 p.m. at the Kirksville Christian Church with Dr. Donald Graham officiating.
