Benefit golf tourney

The First Annual AAU Golf Tournament will be held Sunday at Blue Hills Golf Club, Blue Ridge.

The event is a benefit for the Roanoke Valley 12-and-under Jaguar basketball team, winners of the state championship. The proceeds from the golf match will help finance the team's trip to the national tournament on July 22-30 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The golf match will be an 18-hole captain's choice, with division A (total team handicap 56 or less) teeing off beginning at 2 p.m. Division B teams (total team handicap 57 or more) will begin at 3:40 p.m.

The $190 per team entry fee includes the golf, a gift bag and free raffle. Fees are tax deductible.

Immunization clinic

A free immunization clinic will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Community Hospital's Pediatric Clinic, Jefferson Street, Roanoke.

Special activities for children will be available during the clinic. Parents are asked to bring their child's immunization records or cards.

The clinic is part of a community-wide project to increase the immunization levels among children and create awareness on the importance of having children immunized.

Consciousness lecture

Dr. Karl Pribbram, director of Radford University's Center for Brain Research and Informational Sciences will speak on ``The Brain and the Variety of Consciousness Experience'' on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Roanoke Memorial Rehab Auditorium, Jefferson and McClanahan Streets, Roanoke.

Pribbram, a neuropsychologist and neurosurgeon, has also conducted research at Yale and Stanford.

The event is hosted by Rolfing Associates and the Lifestream Center. The $5-$10 fee will be donated to Pribbram's research work at Radford.
