HIGH-SPEED CRASH KILLS BEDFORD BOY

A 15-year-old Bedford boy with no driver's license was killed last week when the car he was driving ran off a Bedford County road.

Tyrone L. Lipscomb was driving north at more than 80 mph, state police Sgt. Bobby Ratliff said, when Lipscomb and Carol Bonds, 18, wrecked on Virginia 43 near the Bedford landfill early Thursday. The speed limit in the area is 55 mph.

According to Ratliff, a trooper found the car on its right side near trees. Both Lipscomb and Bond, who were found outside the car, were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Lipscomb died at 8:11 a.m. Thursday. Bonds was still in the hospital in a progressive care unit Monday evening.

Ratliff said the car was destroyed. Lipscomb and Bonds were not wearing seat belts. The accident is under investigation.
