ADKINS, Toney Clark, 43, of Christiasnsburg, passed away Sunday, July 9, 1995 in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was an employee of Federal Mogul, Inc. in Blacksburg and is survived by his wife, Linda Adkins; two sons, Tommy and Matt Adkins; his parents, Garnett and Leona Adkins; two sisters, Carroll Adkins and Jackie Loar; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Wayne and Barbara Adkins, Eddie Adkins; two nieces, Rhonda Adkins, Tammy Adkins; two nephews, Terry Adkins and Jon Loar, all of Christiansburg. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dewey O. Weaver Jr. with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christsiansburg, Va. 24073. Friends may call anytime Tuesday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home and the family will receive friends there Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

BROWN, Darryl Andre, 31, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, July 8, 1995. Funeral services will be Wednesday 11 a.m. at Hill Street Baptist Church. The Rev. Corwin C. Casey will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

CARTER, Ruth Armbrister, 92, of Rt. 1 Box 464, Princeton, W.Va., formerly of Roanoke, died Monday July 10, 1995 in a Princeton Nursing Home. Born in Wythe County, Virginia she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Armbrister and was a retired school teacher, teaching for over 20 years in the Roanoke City Schools. She was a member of the Melrose Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She had been a resident of Bluefield for nine years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bryan Carter and a foster daughter, Eleanor Armbrister Cooney. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Leatrice) Cash of Bluefield, W.Va.; a sister, Anna Surratt of Rich Creek; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Cedar Lawn Burial Park in Roanoke. There will be no visitation. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the College Avenue Baptist Church, corner of College and Jefferson Streets, Bluefield, W.Va. 24701. Mercer Funeral Home of Bluefield is in charge of arrangements.

CHEATHAM, Sharon Wertz, 45, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, July 10, 1995. She was a charter member of Northview United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband of 26 years, J. David Cheatham; sons, Darren E. Cheatham, Jeremy D. Cheatham, Roanoke; parents, Lewis E. Sr. and Frances A. Wertz, Roanoke; grandmother, Elsie A. Nelson, Montvale; brothers and sisters-in-law, L. E. Jr. and Sue Wertz, Jerry and Janis Wertz, all of Roanoke, Curry and Debbie Wertz, Germany, Kevin and Martha Wertz, Roanoke; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kitura and Gary Conner, Roanoke, Dena and Tom Lowe, Wirtz; a number of nieces and nephews. COBB, Franklin Aulton, 75, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, July 10, 1995. He was formerly of Columbus, Ohio. In Columbus, he was a very talented gospel singer. He once was the Ohio State Boxing Champion, fighting under the name of ""Cisco Angardi"". He has been living in Roanoke for the last 4 years. He is survived by a very very devoted friend, Anna Wheeler; other devoted friends are Lula Allen, Jesse and Elizabeth Lawson, Robert and Darlene Manns, Rev. Russell Mans, and Mildred Manns, all of Roanoke; many other friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

FLINCHUM, Audrey Ellis, 83, of Snowville, passed away Monday, July 10, 1995. He was a retired employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, and was a member of the Pulaski County Wagon Train. Survivors include his wife, Lillie H. Flinchum, Hiwassee; five daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Claudell Owens, Radford, Mrs. Erby (Colleen) Simpkins, Mrs. Vivian Marshall, Mrs. Harold (Verily) Simpkins, and Mrs. Tony (Vickie) Moles, all of Hiwassee; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ellis D. and Tina Flinchum, Belspring, Rickey and Donna Flinchum, Pulaski; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Wilson, Salem, Mrs. Loisene Meredith, Radford; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, 1995 at 11 a.m. in the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Curtis Ratcliff officiating. HODGES, Grace Lee, 87, of Bandy Road, Roanoke Co., died Sunday, July 9, 1995, in a local hospital. She worked for American Viscose Corp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard O. Hodges. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Lacy and Nina Hodges, Roanoke; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Andrews, Roanoke, Eula Kathy and Paul Comer, Salem; grandchildren, Lacy D. Hodges Jr., Misty Hall, Dale W. and David Lee Hodges, Peggy Tinsley and Sharon Levesque; great-grandchildren, Lacy D. HOSTETTER, Don W., 51, of Hopewell, died Monday, July 3, 1995. He was born in Buena Vista and graduated from Parry McCluer High School. He was a Captain with the Hopewell Bureau of Police and graduated from F.B. I. Academy in 1984. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Optimist Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar J. Hostetter. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Williams Hostetter, Hopewell; his mother and stepfather, Esther and Woodrow Tomlin; sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Charles Armstrong; one niece, Beth Armstrong, all of Buena Vista; a stepbrother, Woody Tomlin, Chester; two stepsisters, Joan T. Bell, Reidville, N.C. and June T. Butje, Chesterfield. Funeral services were held Friday, July 7, 1996 in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home with Police Chaplain John Crawford officiating. Interment was held in Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George County.

MCGUIRE, Barbara W., 61, of Christiansburg, died Sunday, July 9, 1995 at her home. Surviving are her husband, Carl McGuire, Christiansburg; two brothers, Ellis Williams, Christiansburg, Ed Williams, Flint, Michigan. McMAHAN, Donald R., 67, of New Castle, passed away Sunday morning, July 9, 1995 at his home. He was retired from Radford Arsenal where he had been employed for 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Betty McPherson McMahan; two sons, Michael Ray and Timothy D. McMahan both of New Castle; one brother, Oakey McMahan; one sister, Hazel Ratliff both of Blacksburg; a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Christian Church, New Castle with interment in Huffman Memorial Park. SAUNDERS, Edward William, 73, of Ferrum, passed away Sunday, July 9, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Clearsey W. Saunders of Rocky Mount; three sons, Edward E. Saunders, Darius L. Saunders and William M. Saunders all of Ferrum; four daughters, Patricia S. Via, Clearsey A. Saunders, Mary K. McGhee all of Rocky Mount and Velma L. Manns of Ferrum; six sisters, Rosie James of Dayton, Ohio, Alice Atkins of Rocky Mount, Irene Poindexter of Rocky Mount, Virginia Edwards of Union Hall, Ruth McDaniels of Ferrum and Shirely Jackson of Salem; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. B. A. Mullins officiating. Interment will be at Saunders Family Cemetery. SLATER, Ralph M., 87, of Wytheville, died Monday July 10, 1995, at his residence. He was the son of the late Carl W. and May Slater. He was watch dog for the town of Wytheville for over 50 years, joining the Two Man Police force in 1936, and he served as policeman, dispatcher, fireman and magistrate. In 1937, he was married to Evelee Fraley who later became his working partner and was made magistrate also. He has been a member of the Wytheville Fire Depart ment since 1926. He and his wife moved into the apartment in the municipal building that housed not only the town and police offices but the fire department. Part of his job was to take care of the fire trucks and equipment. Ralph was the only Wytheville Policeman to ever patrol the city streets on a motorcycle under town manager the late Mr. Roy W. Arthur. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and was a member of the Wytheville Masonic Lodge #81 AF & AM. He survived by his wife, Evelee Fraley Slater, Wytheville; one nephew, Robert Stephen Slater; two nieces, Carolyn Kovac and Janet. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 12, 1995 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Dale Wyrick with the interment to follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial service in the Chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 1995. SMITH, Willie Guild, 83, of Roanoke, passed away Monday, June 19, 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Smith. Mr. Smith was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church. He is survived by two nephews, Charles (Helen) Franklin and Wilford Franklin, both of Roanoke; one grand-nephew, Charles Franklin Jr. , Richmond; two grand-nieces, Dana Franklin Chambliss, Atlanta, Ga., and Bernice Franklin, Texas; other rela tives and friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Park. The Rev. Andrea Cornett-Scott will be officiating. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.

STAFFORD, Dorothy Robertson, 90, of Sugar Run, died Sunday, July 9, 1995, following a long illness. Mrs. Stafford was a member of Eaton Chapel United Methodist Church. She was born at Sugar Run on December 18, 1904 and was a daughter of the late Aubrey Robertson and Claire Stone Robertson. She was the widow of Joe Stafford. She is survived by three sons, Bane Stafford, Sugar Run, Joe Stafford, Sugar Run, Brooks Stafford, Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Alma Robertson, Sugar Run, Elvia Saville, Blacksburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 13, 1995 at 11 a.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg with interment in Eatons Chapel Church Cemetery. WARD, Clifton Osborne, 71, of Thaxton, passed away Monday, July 10, 1995, at his residence. He was born November 5, 1923 in Bedford County, a son of the late Hamner Ward and Mary Gray Ward. He was a retired cattle farmer and was veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Gardner Ward; a son and daughter-in-law, Berkeley E. and Norma Jean Ward, Salem; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise W. and Lewis Zimmerman, Dorothy W. and Eugene Salyer, all of Thaxton; Evelyn W. and Charles Giles, Bedford; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, July 12, 1995 at 2 p.m. from the Greenwood Cemetery b y the Rev. Phillip Hunsicker, the Rev. Wayne Warren and the Rev. Wessley Patterson. WEATHERMAN, Thomas Sanders, 89, of Armory Road, Galax, died Saturday, July 8, 1995 at his home. Surviving are three daughters, Susan Schooley Poole of Charlotte, N.C., Deborah Weatherman Cure and Patricia Weatherman Greene both of Evans, Ga.; six grandchildren, Paul Richard Poole Jr., Stephanie Poole Jones, Kellie Ann Poole, Thomas William Greene, Dillon Alene Cure, and Shannon Darcey Cure; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Katelyn Jones; two sisters, Cybil Cook of Orville, Calif. and Zella Meriweather of Pulaski; and one brother, Richard Franklin Weatherman of Pulaski. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 1995 in the First United Methodist Church with interment in Felts Memorial Cemetery. WELLS, Ruth, 80, of Salem, died Monday, July 10, 1995. Surviving is one nephew, Frank Edward Wells, Jr., Rural Hall, N.C.; and one niece, Linda Wells Walker, Norton, Va. WILSON, Lucy Ann, 88, of Montvale, passed away Saturday, July 8, 1995. Survivors include two daughters, Miss Pearl McClease, Montvale, Mrs. Hazel Edwards and her husband Sam, Roanoke; one son, Mr. percy McClease, Montvale; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
