SEPT. 1 IS DEADLINE FOR DECALS

Motor vehicle decals are now being sold by the town of Pulaski and must be displayed by Sept. 1 to avoid a fine.

They will be good this time only for 18 months instead of only 12 months, to make Pulaski's timetable for decals the same as those for Pulaski County and the town of Dublin. The three jurisdictions worked out an agreement under which their law enforcement bodies can monitor vehicles for decals from any of the three localities.

Decals are available at the Finance and Treasurer's Office in the Municipal Building. The one-time costs for the 18-month decals will be $30 for private cars and trucks under 20,000 pounds, $12 for motorcycles and motorbikes, and $30 for heavier trucks plus $1 for each 1,000 pounds they weigh above 20,000 pounds.

Starting in 1997, the town of Pulaski will join Dublin and Pulaski County in offering one-year decals in April each year.

Decal applications have been mailed out by the town. To avoid lines at town offices, vehicle owners can return those applications with checks to: Town of Pulaski, P.O. Box 660, Pulaski, Va. 24301. The applications will be processed and returned in about five days.

All delinquent personal property taxes must be paid before a decal is issued.
