BLUE RIDGE MEMBER TO LEAD SCHOOL BOARD

Jim Ruhland, who represents the Blue Ridge District on the Botetourt County School Board, has been named chairman for the coming year.

Ruhland, who has been on the School Board since 1989, was elected to the post at the board's annual reorganizational meeting last week.

Ruhland, who works as an investigations supervisor for the Virginia State Police, succeeds Ray Sprinkle as chairman. Sprinkle, who served on the School Board for 21 years, did not seek reappointment.

Ruhland is unopposed for his seat this fall, when county voters will elect School Board members for the first time.

Sally Eads, who represents the Fincastle District, was named vice-chairwoman.

In other action, the School Board approved the promotion of Chester Adams from assistant principal at Botetourt Intermediate School to principal of Troutville Elementary School.
